well...i have it. i was just diagnosed. this is aweful. i will not go to see a shrink, i refuse, although i am willing to do anything else whatsoever to get over this aweful, horrible, hopeless, sad, lonely feeling.

do any of you know a cure that doesn't involve medication? i'm serious here...medicine is like an american cure and i'm sick of hearing "go dose yourself." gotta cure?

Yes, I have. Actually, talking to someone does help because you say your feelings out loud instead of holding them in. Sometimes you can figure out the cause and talk it out where you would not trying to do it by yourself. I personally would not take medication for this but there are some other things you can do. Getting plenty of sleep, getting daily exersize (walking at least) getting in the sunshine...keeping busy but not exhausting yourself helps. Helping other people actually helps because you find out that you are not the only one with problems and usually theirs is worse than yours. Believing in God helps because He will always listen and has an answer for everything. Don't give up whatever you do!

I would say do what most say.... there's not really a cure and nothings 100 percent effective... If you won't see a "shrink" how were you diagnosed?... I would suggest like the others, restful sleep (before 12 am for at least 8-9hrs depending on age/etc), busy work, remove stressors out of your life, and finding something you enjoy (something simple) that you can do when you feel it coming... you could also considering taking a look a books by shrinks or other professionals... also theres a difference than psychologists and psychiatrists (the latter has an MD to prescribe and more often suggests that)

I have been suffering depressive symptoms for about a month already. I understand how you feel, it is a very scary thing and I myself do not like to take medication. Unfortunately there is no actual cure for depression aside from meds- but if meds aren't your choice then your next option is to let it run its course with certain ways to cope with it. Heres my advice on how to cope with depression.
-If you are feeling blue or if something is upsetting you, you should probably at the very least take psychotherapy (talking to a therapist or psyhologist etc.) or talk to your friends and family about whats bothering you.
-Go out for exercise or hang out with friends-even if it seems almost impossible.
-Do what you can to get your mind off it--if you get too worried about your depression, it can really haunt you. Watching movies, or taking up new hobbies or activities can often help.
-Remind yourself that there is a light at the end of every tunnel and eventually you will come out of depression sooner or later.
-Eat, Sleep and Exercise properly.
-THINK POSITIVE!!!

I have experienced clinical depression on and off throughout my life. I had periods both on and off medication. Ways of overcoming depression without meds is to train your mind to think positive about any situation and to exercise to increase endorphins in the brain. Sometimes though my depression was so severe that these 2 methods didn't even help so I had no choice but to get on meds.

i dont know about a cure but i find talking to people helps. someone you trust. also starting new activities. such as joining new clubs, sports or creative ones. taking up a new instrument. generally the idea is to use up as much time as possible. i find it gets worse if youre on your own with nothign to do.
as for gettign over it. well not yet but im trying.
