the british already have reserve forces. US "militia" are national guard and reserve who go to boot camp then train on weekend per month. "militia groups" are wacko terrorist bunches who hide behind free speach and the right to bear arms.

Why on earth would you want a 'separate' what you call 'militia'?The word 'militia' tends to sound like a rag-tag despot army. The British Army [the best in the globe by the way] already has a extremely well trained Reserve. What's this 'Just in case' idea from you...... in case of what?. Your ideas are well out of kilter , as the 'Pars' are. You sound as if you are attempting to put over Nationalist crappy toss-pot arguments. I'm from Central Scotland and Scottish through and through but also a UK Citizen. I wouldn't believe these brazen and arrogant SNP leaders , their arguments are about self-promotion and not the Scotttish "Nation" as they call it. Fly the Union Flag with pride and 'Keep the Faith' fella. God Save the Queen!!!.

You must have the same thought or vision that I'm having the possibility of Scotland and UK being invaded in the future from now. With almost all the Army including the TA overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan, we are at risk, having some form of militia would
be a good idea not just for Scotland but for the rest of the UK.

Ha ha this is good! If we had a Scotish Militia then we would be fair game for Tony and the London terrorists to discredit nationalism through their rhetoric. However, if they actually want rid of us from 'Grand old Britain' then they may term us as freedom fighters (unlikely at present as we subsidise them through OUR black stuff). If you look at the Mujahideen fighting the Russians in the early '80's, they were hailed by Thatcher as a militia engaged in "one of the most heroic struggles known to history". Just look at how Bush, Blair & Co refer to those 'freedom fighters' now. So, I suppose my point is that it's all about timing my good man. Just as it was when Scott Muirhead missed a sitter against Motherwell on Monday.

You have to be careful here. The last time the Scots raised any kind of army, the lowland 'regiments' sold out the highland 'regiments' to the English, at the drop of a sporran.
It would never work, as one half of the militia wouldn't wear green, and half the naval brigade wouldn't wear blue!

Doesn't UK have the Territorial Army anymore. (The Terries) or reserve units?
That would be the same as the US National Guard and Reserves.
The Guard can be called up by the State Governor in cases of State emergency, like Katrina and by the President for war overseas.
Is it local emergency support and UK Military support that you are referring to?
As an earlier responder said. I hope that you are not thinking that England is going to invade Scotland. Why would they, you are a British State just like any American State.

I think you have been watching Braveheart too much! lol. The English are not going to come and get you anymore. I think countries only have militia when they have a serious threat aimed at them, I don't think Scotland needs to worry.

Join the TA. Scotland shouldn't have its own militia look at what happened with the jacobites!
Plus if Scotland gets one then we in oxfordshire get one too, we are just as entiltled.

America has Militias? You must be referring to the State National Guard units, which report to each state's Governor.

It is better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.
In this day and age and society needs to be prepared for just about anything. Mother nature, terrorist, enemies, or whatever have a way of getting to you when your guard is down.
I certainly don't think it is a bad idea.
