That's a very good question. It deserves a very good answer. 2 Timothy 4:1-5 says: "I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is destined to judge the living and the dead, and by his manifestation and his kingdom, 2 preach the word, be at it urgently in favorable season, in troublesome season, reprove, reprimand, exhort, with all long-suffering and [art of] teaching. 3 For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. 5 You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do [the] work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry."

So, I guess people would rather just sit and do nothing, having "their ears tickled", as versus going out and doing what they're supposed to be doing. Peace.

Because most of us are not living our faith, even with ourselves. How then can we spread what we are not practising?

It takes personal holiness and prayer in order to ever begin having an effect on others. It is very hard to go around preaching the gospel, when today most people already know about Christ, but are not interested, or they shun the idea. So it's a bit like casting ones pearls before swine now.

People are also too wary that they will be laughed at or mocked. But we do indeed have people spreading the Christian message. They are the ministers/leaders of the church who are preaching to masses of people all the time.

There is not a lot of an excuse for anybody to say they have not heard the Christian message, as nowadays, we have television, radio, internet and the gospel has pretty much been spread worldwide now. It's a matter of people being open to the word and converting, or remaining indifferent and carrying on as they were.

There is no excuse anymore. I could go out and preach the gospel and be laughed at, how many people already know and have already heard? most.

But again, I will never know what to say or what to do, if I am not living my own life around what God asked. Once a person does that and gets themselves right, things become much clearer and a person can often effect those around them without having to preach much at all. Actions speak MUCH louder than words and the Christian message is being preached all the time. If anybody has not heard of Christ these days, they'd be looked at as though they were crazy!

There are many ways to spread the bible and many shallow christians behaving like used car salesmen trying to wear the prospective human down with word overload.
One interpretation that most seem to cling to is the belief that we must use words to spread the gospel....LOOK WHAT THAT HAS DONE to the good work of saints.
Those of us who believe and remain silent have more time to walk with the Lord in our hearts and set by example the standards of good respectful conduct towards our fellow man regardless of where he is at in the continuim of life

Spreading the Gospel doesn't have to mean standing on a street corner or preaching. Jesus spread the gospel by actions as well as words: caring for the sick, the dying, the widows and orphans, feeding the hungry. Reaching out and helping those in need. THAT is spreading the gospel just as much if not more the preaching at the top of your lungs. Most Christians do one or the other, in my opinon it is obvious which is more productive and christ-like.

I dislike bible quoting as a general rule since so much is quoted out of context but since it appears alot of people are pointing out bible verses to justify preaching as THE way of being Christian. Let me say read the entire book of James for in it he defines what a Christian and what living the Christian faith is. Here are some highlights of why at times we should be silent and act:

Know this, my dear brothers: everyone should be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath, for the wrath of a man does not accomplish the righteousness of God.~ James 1:19-20

Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves .For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his own face in a mirror.
~ James 1:22-23

If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, his religion is vain.
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained by the world. ~James 1:26-27

So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
Indeed someone might say, "You have faith and I have works." Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works. You believe that God is one. You do well. Even the demons believe that and tremble. Do you want proof, you ignoramus, that faith without works is useless?~James 2:18-20

Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you realize that we will be judged more strictly, ~James 3:1

Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show his works by a good life in the humility that comes from wisdom~ James 3:13

because some are terrible speakers. often people help it to be happening but don't actually do it. e.g someone who cleans a church helps the Gospel be spread because no-one would go to a church what smells bad so by cleaning the church they ensure that people will go and listen to the Gospels be preached.

I try to but I am not a Bible thumper. I tend to try to live the example. I also do things like give Bibles to new Christians and work with them in the church. I do tell people about the Lord.

My commandment is to love you and love my wife as Christ loved the church and gave HIS life for her.
my CALLING is to spread the good news of the gospel.

What's more important to you? Someone showing you the Light, or someone BEING Light when you need it?

Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Believe it or not, many people don't even know that Jesus commanded his followers to go and spread the good news. But, many do and choose to ignore it for various reasons (one being because they don't have God's Holy Spirit backing them).

"Spread the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary."

Many of us try to spread it in our own way, through deeds, and not necessarily words.
