The word alone is too scary. Why not 'Believers of the Truth' the name change alone would increase their congregation by thousands don't you agree?

If they don't want to get the word out why have a website, why have members, it seems they don't recruit but in a sense they do and I feel they would appreciate more people part of their group, I think a name change would help not hurt their cause don't you?

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

It depends on what exactly you mean by "Satanist". If you're referring those who follow the Church of Satan, those who believe there is no God or Satan, then your answer would be that Satanists call themselves so, because they are against the idea of God. They think that the Christians interperetation fo God is unhealthy and trying to resist natural human actions. They call themselves Satanists because they believe that what the Bible says is "Satanic" or "Unholy" are the things that humans should truly be acting upon. If you're referring to dumb teenagers and super-goth Satanists, they just do so because they think it sounds cool.

Because they're not out to recruit. Their website clearly states that it's a religion only for those of a certain temperament. For example, while I appreciate their philosophy, I am certainly not of the proper temperament to join. Like many religions, they prefer to have people come to them than to recruit.

Satanists probably don't want a big congregation. their smallness and notorious name makes them scarier. most are just nerds that got picked on a lot and want to get back at people, i've met some they're really not that scary.

Because Satanism is about the Self not about joining something.

One would think that a Satanist did believe at least in Satan.

Because they don't necessarily want people to join. They don't need the world to believe exactly as they do.
