I think that I might have Asperger's syndrome which is a mild form of autism. The symptoms seem to describe my personality pretty accurately. I have no social life and I'm interested in things that other people would find strange or trivial. I can function in society because I have a job but the lack of social interaction is killing me. I am so damn lonely, but I feel like I just can't break out. I feel like I'm in a prison. Just the thought that I may have a neurological disorder that can't be cured plunges me into despair. I feel like I've been screwed out of life and that there is no hope for me in this life to be happy. Should I just cut my losses and kill myself?

Absolutely not!

Look, we don't choose the roads we must travel in life, only the paths we choose to get there. Being lonely is not at all uncommon among people with Asperger Syndrome, based on what I have read online in my own research. You might find luck interacting with people online than in person. Certainly, that seems to help a lot of Aspies, as many like to fondly call themselves, get by. There are a number of online support groups too which you may find useful.

Also, many people with Aspergers also have prosopagnosia (face blindness) which can be extremely isolating in and of itself. Still, one can certainly find some solace in various online communities.

There is nothing wrong with being quirky! Just learn to put your quirks to good personal and professional use and you'll do pretty well!

No, I don't think you should kill yourself. Just because you take interest in unusual things doesn't mean you're alone or anti-social. As you may have already discovered by meeting other people online, people in general have a wide range of interests, and there are likely people with similar interests to yours - they might just not live near you. So, you can find people online to share stories, become chat buddies (like online pen-pals) if you feel the need for some human connection.

You can also look for different ways to connect to the people that are in your local community. In pursuing your hobbies, you're likely to find some people who are similar enough that you can spend time with them - even if it's not specifically activities related to your main interests.

Find some activities or topics you can enjoy - maybe a little closer to the mainstream, if that helps - and it will open you up to a little more interaction. Try shooting pool, or going bowling, or playing tennis, or going to the arcade, once a week. You might start to run into the same people regularly and learn more about them. It's a good way to start some new friendships.

Here's a website for people with Asperger's. The people there could give you support and ideas about how to make friends. http://www.udel.edu/bkirby/asperger/ You may have something more treatable though, and I suggest you get a referral to a neurologist or psychiatrist who's an expert in these things and see if you can get some help. Think about it this way -- there isn't one person on this earth that could be taken off without affecting other people. Your family and friends and their family and friends and so on would be affected. Just think what that would do to your family! Killing yourself is never the answer. You were put on this earth for a reason, so get some help and live life to it's fullest.

Don't kill yourself. I have high-functioning autism and I would choose Asperger Syndrome over it. My one friend has Asperger Syndrome and he has lots of friends.

Go to google....find the aspergers support group....I know there is one because I very close friend of mine has aspergers.
I understand you feelings, but honestly, talking to someone who knows EXACTLY how you feel will really help.

Yes definatly. I have very mild asburgers syndrome(but I am sure I was misdiagnosed)I also had sexual abuse at young age and more than likely have ptsd. had a big breakdown and now I am strugling more with life becose of that in and out of hospital becose I cant cope with being seen as someone who is probly more hated than a serial killer or rapeist tbh as thay will all have people around them caring for them afterall. id be so ok if I was nit so isolated and lonly thu ni fault of my own. and life is not worth living as peple will think you a wirdo and to much bother for life and theres nothing you can do about it at all but to kill yourself. I am 33 and Its torture everyday knowing no one cares and you are just some pecived hindrance to people because of this lifeling tag. The reason peple do not want to know you is thay see you as a wirdo and are afraid of you. If you have any ideas becose I have tryed to kill myself so many times. Look up Marcus Jannes he hanged himself straight up no messing. that is what everyone who has any disabilty should be trying for so we can stop being a hindrance to society and end our lifes as soon as possible. I hope you die sooner than me as thires nothing in life to look forward to and no company outside of work if you have job. belive me please end your torture dont belive people who say it will get better as it only gets worse. you have no hope. Goodluck

If you think you should be dead, God would have killed you by now, no offfense. Because maybe he wants you for a higher purpose. Just get out there and try and meet people and enjoy yourself. Life is too short. You'll find that special someone or something that makes life interesting and fun. Just hold out for a second all right? Trust me, you are not dead for a reason.
