Voodoo and Catholicism not compatible?
Voodoo is evil? Christianity is the way?
(yes, I am being somewhat of an instigator here today, but it's all for the sake of gaining some insight....for all of us)
Marie LaVeau was "Queen of the Voodoos" in New Orleans for many, many years. She was Catholic, attended church, married in church, was buried in a Catholic cemetary. She was good friend with the Priest at St. Louis Cathedral, and was called by many "devout". She also held Voodoo ceremonies on the Bayou and in Congo Square-being leader of the Vooodoo's.
Explain how she, and Voodoo, are evil ....if the church allowed her to attend church or be buried as she was, and still is.
See this actual article.....ranting about her good deeds and dedication to the church... See the article in Yellow, from the Times Picayune...normally a very conservative paper during these times.

Voodoo(Voudon/hoodoo) and Santeria are just another spiritual beliefs that arose from african/haitian and cuban and other countries that had to adopt Catholicism/Christianity into their beliefs in fear of being persecuted/killed.

Nothing wrong with it at all except what people label it to be "Evil". Any religion can be used for evil if you look at society and whats going on in government you cant really call it "good" and its all done in the name of God.

Same thing with witchcraft,wicca,paganism,hindu/buddhism,masons they all have their good and bad.

People need to stop judging things as "evil" that don't relate to them or that they do not understand.

If the church "allowed" her to stay in full knowledge of her spiritual and cultural beliefs that means that they saw the similarities in the beliefs and were non judgemental.

I think this is rare as you can see from judgemental people, churches and societies these days.

I think not only was she blessed but that church. They probably found more in common than differences.

(btw im not voodoo nor santeria but have interests in it...im pagan Thelemic these days...brought up catholic and was a born again pentecostal for 4 years - so you know..i've been there).

Pastor Billy says: I'm not familar with this particular case but let's look closer.

Was this individual merely practising something against Catholic teaching of the truth or was she teaching others against Catholic Christian doctrine? The point I'm trying to make is does her actions make her a sinner or a sinner and heretic? If she is a sinner alone well my brothers and sisters there are many many sinners is every Christian community and no one in their right mind would say all these sinners represent what the teaching authority instructs as truth. Voodoo and Catholicism is not compatiable if this person was tolerated by local Church authorities it was most likely with the hope she would repent and sin no more. I would side on the scriptural understanding that Jesus will separate the goats from the sheep and that means the goats and the sheep in his Church. Scripture also makes clear "the wheat and chafe will be joined until the end".
Be mindful that the actions of individuals alone doesn't formulate what the Church teaches as we can stil fall into sin while being members of Jesus' Church.

Very little is known with any certainty about the life of Marie Laveau.

She is supposed to have been born in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana in 1794, the daughter of a white planter and a black woman. She married Jacques Paris, a free Black, on August 4, 1819; her marriage certificate is preserved in Saint Louis Cathedral in New Orleans.

Of her magical career, little definite can be said. She is said to have had a snake called Zombi. Oral traditions suggest that the occult part of her magic mixed Roman Catholic beliefs and saints with African spirits and religious concepts.

On June 16, 1881, the New Orleans newspapers announced that Marie Laveau had died. This is noteworthy if only because she continued to be seen in the town after her supposed demise. It is claimed that one of her daughters by M. Glapion assumed her name and carried on her magical practice after her death.

will we nonetheless have the skill to make the alternative? Even interior of a deterministic universe, there is inspite of the actual shown fact that the downside of in simple terms predicting such issues. Prediction takes attempt and the added forward one is going in this style of deterministic universe, the quicker the quantity of attempt demands grows. Take a chess application. Chess is a hundred% deterministic, yet to even be certain what all possibilities are takes incredibly some time for even very speedy computers. Now experience approximately how troublesome the actual worldwide is in assessment ... Even in a deterministic worldwide, decision could inspite of the actual shown fact that be very skill with the aid of actual shown fact that predictability ought to be constrained as to how a techniques forward with any accuracy it incredibly is going to in all possibility pass. So the common loss of skills is sufficient for a option to nonetheless be important, inspite of the actual shown fact that for the time of hindsight it replaced into the only one which would be made. additionally, to simulate all the probabilities of a universe could necessitate a grant of power greater than that universe to run the two the universe and to grant for the era of the understanding concerning it incredibly is destiny before the universe itself almost computes any specific 2d of that destiny (by employing technique of having it genuinely ensue, so which you ought to speak). for that reason, even a thoroughly deterministic universe ought to no longer be fullyyt envisioned interior that universe by employing the common approach that predicting the long term necessitates predicting the predictions of the ordinary predictor and distinctive others, as they are additionally area of the universe that's no longer remoted away in this is own sub universe - this is predictions could consequences the long term direction of interests in an unanticipated way, so the two this is predictions are in no way shared with the purpose to in no way have an result on regardless of previous it incredibly is calculations and as a effect it incredibly is ineffective, or it shares it incredibly is predictions and all destiny predictions finally end up questionable on condition that they have been predicted from interior an surroundings that did no longer incorporate the long term being ordinary.

Voodoo would be considered by the Catholic Church to be wrong no doubt, as is witchcraft. But from my point of view as an ex Catholic now skeptic, there is no difference between voodoo and priestcraft. They both indulge in silly superstitious rituals and nonsense.

Voodoo and Catholicism are both religion with the same premises. The are highly compatible and should be [and are in most cases] inclusionary towards each other. Both religious beliefs are supporting each other in a discrete manner.
