Though it doesn't say officially, I believe Jesus would have been raised a carpenter because His father, Joseph, was a carpenter. And as His father, Joseph would have passed the trade onto his son.
Do you ask if Jesus is a carpenter because Mary Magdalene called Him a gardener on Easter? Because in that instance (forgive me for not being able to tell you specifically which Gospel it is referenced in-I'm at work and my bible's at home), I think Mary saw a man, and she automatically believed Him to be a gardener (who else would be out that early near the tombs?), and besides-I am certain she was panicking with blinders on: isn't that always the way? When we get panicked, we lose sight of even the most obvious thing. Mary certainly wasn't expecting to see Jesus standing there alive-which is why He actually had to call her name: "Mary." I like to think that's sort of a "Hellooooo!" moment. After a spiritual doubletake, suddenly Mary realizes she's not talking to just some gardener- it's Jesus Himself. I hope I helped!

Jesus was a carpenter while here on earth. But He said that His Father is the vinedresser, or gardener and that every plant that He didn't plant would be uprooted, meaning he wants to weed the wickedness out of us!

He was a carpenter by trade but a gardener of people's souls. He went to the Garden of Gethsemane to PRAY not to garden.

He learned the carpenter trade from his (step)father Joseph. But he liked gardens, apparently, as it is mentioned in scripture that he went to the Garden of Gethsemane more than once.

Matthew 13:55 Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?
Mark 6:3 This is the carpenter the son of Mary and the brother of James and Joseph and Judas and Simon, is it not? And his sisters are here with us, are they not?” So they began to stumble at him

An artisan, something almost no one is today.
I can go to Ikea and buy a dresser and put it together, that don't make me a carpenter. It just means I can fit slot A into hole B.
Jesus was capable of making a dresser that would hold together for hundreds of years without nails.
Almost no one can do that today.
