You have 2 options.....remove some stuff, or add memory!

Every thing that you download onto your PC takes space on the hard disk. The more stuff you put on there, the more space it will need, and the less free disk space you will have left.

You need to do one of the following:

1) Run a disk defragmenter and try to see if that will make more space available. This may take a long time if it has never been run before.

START
- Programs
- Accessories
- System Tools
- Disk Defragmenter

You can also let Windows check for any old or temporary files and have it clean those up. Use the Disk Cleanup option in the same menu as the Disk Defragmenter.

2) Remove any old games or software that you do not use anymore, or do not plan to use in the next 6 months or so...Just remember that you may need a serial number or license key to re-install it. Make sure you have that before uninstalling.

Some games have an option to remove the software, such as "Uninstall Diablo II". If it does not, you can go here:

START
- Settings
- Control Panel
- Add/Remove Programs

Wait for the list to pop up and then find the software you want to remove. Again, make sure you know what you are removing and how to re-install it if you want to use it again later.

3) Copy your music (mp3 files) and any pictures (jpg/gif/bmp) to a USB keychain or burn it to a CDROM or DVDROM then delete it from the C:\My Music folder. Then you can play the music from there using Windows Media Player without it taking up room on your hard disk.

4) Buy a second hard disk and arrange to have it installed as a D:\ drive on your PC. Hard disks of 200GB or more are available and can be used to store songs and install software just like the C:\ drive is doing.

And as others have said before me, adding memory to a system does NOT let you install more software and music...It only ends up in memory AFTER it has been loaded from the hard disk (unless you are using a RAM disk and never shutting down your PC, which is a whole other ballgame...)

Assuming you are using some version of Windows, here are some options:

1. Empty your Recycle Bin.

2. Delete old files that you don't use or need any more. (Be sure to empty your Recycle Bin after deleting, to reclaim the disk space.)

3. Compress some folders in your computer. You can do this on any folders except for your system folder (the main WINDOWS or WINNT or WINXP folder, usually on your C: drive) and it will reclaim some space. To compress a folder, open up Windows Explorer, locate a folder, right-click, and see if you have a "Compress" option on the menu.

If you have multiple hard drives (like a C: and D: drive, where D: is not a CD, DVD, or floppy disk drive) you can compress an entire drive as long as it does not contain your system (WINDOWS) folder.

Compressing a folder takes some time (the system has to go through all of the files and compress them) but when it's done you'll have some extra free space left on the computer. Plus, any new files you save to a compressed folder should automatically get compressed as they're saved, so they'll take up less hard disk space than normal.

[Edited to add...]
4. Add another hard drive. This means opening up your computer and installing new hardware, and should only be done by someone who knows their way around the inside of a computer. Also, if you're using a laptop, you would probably have to replace the hard drive with a larger-capacity drive, since there's usually no room for a second disk.

Adding memory (RAM) will not help because you need hard disk space for long-term storage.

First thing to do is go to add/remove programs and see if there are any programs you are not using.
second, backup your pictures, documents and everything else that takes up space and save it to cds/ dvds and remove them from the computer once you are sure they are backed up to a disk.
larger hard drives are quite inexpensive right now and getting a second one just for storing data or moving all your stuff to a larger hard drive may be a good option.
Also check the size of your recycle bin by right clicking and choosing properties. It uses 10% of the hard drive, but you probably don't need it to reserve all that space.
Also look at the size of the temporary storage folder for internet explorer. You can decrease the size of that a bit, too.

Go into Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and uninstall games and programs you don't play/use anymore. I would also go to Programs/Accessories/System Tools and run the disk cleanup wizard.

There are a LOT of other things you can do, but those will help the fastest. If you would like more detailed help, let me know!

You have 2 options:

1) Free up some space
2) Buy a new hard drive

If you want, you can go to www.froogle.com and find cheap hard drives. I recommend externals if you don't know how to open a pc and install an internal.

If you've run out of hard disk drive space and you want more, then the answer is obvious - get a new hard disk drive (internal or external)!

try defragmenting your drive. Also use disk clean up. you should gain some space that way. if not then you will need to remove some programs, or move some files like photo's and music to disks

Large hard drives, both internal and external are fairly inexpensive. Make sure that the operating system you are using will support the large capacity drives.
Adding more RAM memory will not help.

You can go buy another harddrive and install it in your tower or get external harddrives or memory sticks i suppose. I am still kinda new at this racket. I have 160 gb harddrive on this one and it is great.
