I wanted to become a reserve office for my local Newport Beach Police Department. I was, however, convicted of a wet reckless charge in January of 2005 and will be finishing my informal probation in January of 08. Can anybody tell me if I am still qualified or do I have to wait 10 years when the DUI can no longer count as a prior?

For all those people writing judgemental answers...I received this conviction and paid my dues. Both monetarily and emotionally. I have established a neighborhood designated driver system to prevent drinking and driving and have never even considered drinking and driving again. Within the 2 years since my conviction I have also lost a close friend to a drunk driver. DO YOU THINK I HAVE LEARNED MY LESSON? I pray to God I never hurt myself or anybody else in the past. So instead of you ASSES that tell me I shouldn't consider doing anything to better my life like being a reserve officer (WHICH MEANS COMMUNITY AND NON-PAID) I think you should reconsider your own lives and think about whether you have ever made a mistake.

--- Your employing checklist is very important whilst being considered for a regulation enforcement place. It lends to showing your point of adulthood and how important you think approximately regulations to be. fantastically for a job that calls which you will maintain on with regulations and to hold your self out as an occasion for others to maintain on with. --- nonetheless i will additionally aid you be attentive to that 2 minor site visitors violations in simple terms before turning 18 in simple terms isn't any important obstruction to you pursuing a profession in regulation enforcement, as long as you do no longer upload anymore on now. Even yet another citation for something minor nonetheless does no longer in all possibility harm you in case you have good grades, even nonetheless it could start to ascertain a development and you do no longer choose for that. --- Figuring you would be approximately 22 or 23 once you unquestionably word, in case you have become a BA, there could have been a honest era for the time of which you've been violation unfastened and that gets you thru. a pair of citations whilst an underage teen could be defined away as youthful exuberance and discovering as long as you probably did learn and are not getting greater violations. --- With a BA, good grades and a sparkling checklist for a minimum of 5 years you could have not got any issues being ordinary for attention on any branch. -- good success --

If the DUI was a misdemeanor (most are), I would think you're OK. However, you'll probably have to wait to at least your 5 year anniversary to show a couple of years off probation responsibility.

That would depend on the departments policy. Anyone with a Misdemeaner could be disqualified. I would check with them to find out for sure.

Not necessarily but it sure doesn't help. The best thing to do is make an anonymous call to the PD in question and ask them.
