Bose speakers/amp and Pioneer head unit on SUV?

I've got a 2002 GMC Envoy that has a factory installed Bose 6 CD stereo system. I was told the head unit had one of the speaker channels die and I will need to replace it. Bose told me the head unit is made for GM by Delphi and so it's obviously not theirs.

So can I replace the head unit with a Pioneer head unit and go with that?

Yes, I did the same thing on my 2003 GMC Sierra and it sounded great. I also added an Alpine amp to give it a little more kick.
