Or does that only apply to atheists?

Anybody can do that, even occasionally unintentionally.

True Christians are careful to avoid quoting or citing Scriptures out of context, because we want to handle the Word of Truth aright.

Context is a tricky thing, though. For example, we could quote Ezekiel 18:4, 20. -- (4 Look! All the souls—to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul that is sinning—it itself will die.
20 The soul that is sinning—it itself will die. A son himself will bear nothing because of the error of the father, and a father himself will bear nothing because of the error of the son. Upon his own self the very righteousness of the righteous one will come to be, and upon his own self the very wickedness of a wicked one will come to be.)

This shows that we all answer for our own sins, not that of our parents or children. Now, does that fact change the fact that if we are discussing what happens to the soul, and I quote this to show that the soul that sins will die, this passage supports my belief even if that was not the purpose it was written? No matter how one considers the context, we learn several points from this:
1. We pay for our own sins.
2. The result of sin is death.
3. This is complete death, inclusive of the soul.

Context IS important, but we do not need to be quick to say "You are taking that out of context" until we have actually examined the context and seen whether or not it changes the meaning of the passage to which we refer. (Especially if there are one or passages that confirm the cited/quoted passage in question.)

Mostly yes !
Athiests and Christians are firstly human beings and not so unalike that they behave differently.
Both have the same equal capacity to trash the other for having a different point of view.
It isnt about who is right.
Its about low self esteems trying to powerplay Ego in a public arena.
If there were no format to debate, the parties involved are powerless.

When we "cite" verses no.

If someone was discussing excommunication in the church and used Matthew 18:20 to make their point that is not out of context.

However if someone was discussing prayer and used Matthew 18:20 that is being pulled out of context. Do you understand now?

Hey Dude!
It is certainly possible to take a verse out of context.
It is also possible to quote a scripture WITHIN context.
How to tell the difference?
READ THE CONTEXT.

i haven't heard one xtian take anything out of the bible itself.. it's all propegated by their self imposed insanity.

i doubt if any of them really read the bible.. let alone take it seriously...

they know it's a scam... they know that most of us know it's a scam... so what else can they do?

they like war... they like control.. why? because they're afraid.

they hate it when some folks can do without the bible and god... jesus.. they're something that these xtians can't be.... "individual"

When they can't agree on what a Christian is, I can only assume that they take it all out of context.
