All babies are geniuses, unless they are developmentally delayed. It just depends on what parents do with their babies, and how they are raised.

If your toddler is balancing your checkbook or playing Beethoven on the piano--that's when you know they're a genius.
Seriously though, all children are gifted. Some more than others. Rarely is there ever a child who is a "genius" and if they are then it's pretty obvious.
Parents say "My 2 yr. old knows all his shapes and colors..do you think he's extrememly gifted?"
The answer to that would be "No". Your 2 yr. old might know all his shapes and colors, but he's probably behind in other things.
Let your kid be a kid. Don't get carried away just because they learn something in advance, because chances are they're still "average".

Most parents think their child is a baby genius :-)
I think toddlers are amazing creatures, who grow and learn at a spectacular rate. Who cares if your child is "gifted"?? When the child gets older, be sure he or she is stimulated and challenged, no matter what their ability.

Well I could tell my child was a genius when she read this question and said "what a moron"
Let the kid be a kid!! At this age let them have fun, thats how they learn if you start pushing your kid to be a baby genius you will have a bell tower sniper on your hands in a few years!

Why can't you just let him be a kid? I hate gifted labels. Its just IQ. I know of geniuses that have no common sense and average people that outperform geniuses because they try. I also know of geniuses that don't have highschool diplomas. Just let the kid be normal.

The best sign is language. If they can grasp complex sentences and have an expanded vocabulary, that is the best sign.
