i want to be able to watch SKy movies and use the home theatre system, which I cannot do through the DVD player. The system consists of a Subwoofer and 5 satellite speakers and I need to know if I have to buy an amplifier or is there a way to connect the sub woofer to the TV( a Phillips 32 " Matchline flat screen). Although the Tv has audio outputs and a sub woofer socket, the subwoofer itself has only the following inputs, coloured red and white.
FR, FL, CR, Cl, SR and SL.
Hope someone can help.

Thanks
George V

I am guessing Sky is a satellite service? If so, you can connect both that and DVD player to your ht system. Connect the video from both to the tv, then connect the audio from both to the ht system.

I gather from your description that the DVD player internally decodes Dolby 5.1 and provides outputs for each channel, and you connect that to your surround system which has an amplifier for each of the six channels. This means you have no decoder for the Sky source (the Sky receiver probably has coax or optical output). If that is the case, you will have to get an A/V receiver to decode the Dolby Digital signal from the satellite receiver. You would then use the digital audio output from the DVD player to the A/V receiver so you can switch between satellite and DVD. You would no longer use the decoded outputs from your DVD.

If this does not apply to your system. post your question again but give more details on the components (DVD player, surround system) and how they are hooked up.
