Sure you get over it!Human psyche is designed that way, forgetting it is a different story altogether. That takes time like most other material losses. Its very easy to understand this for people who have lost a loved one ,specially a blood relation they were really close to,thru death.Theres a grief process involved which consists of 5 stages..!)Denial.."no this cant be happening" 2)Bargaining"maybe,maybe not"3)Rationalization"aw he died,or left because of ....."4)Depression"why oh why" and fianally 5)Acceptance"Whats happened has happened..its time to move on"! So dont worry,i dont know which stage you happen to be in but acceptance will come, trust me.I just hope i make sense to you.

You can't help but compare your new love to your past love, and that means you're foced to look at your first love again and again.

But seriously, that's not a bad thing...especially if your first love was a positive experience. It means you'll hold your future lovers to a higher standard, and that's good.

My first love was really a good girl. She was sweet, honest, and passionate. Things didn't work out for us, but when I liked girls later in life, I felt they had to be at least as cool as she was.

It was a good thing, too. When I finally got married, my wife really was a good match for me, and I think keeping that high standard really made a difference.

There will always be a special place in your heart for a first love, but you have to get past it. The feelings you'll share with someone else will eclipse those you had with your first, and you'll know it's important because of it.

Keep that first love feeling, but move past the person. There's a reason it didn't work out, and you can't forget that either. You'll meet someone who is better for you, but make sure they're at least as good to you as your first love before even opening the door to your heart next time.

Oh yes, you will get over it and remember it fondly one day. Keep in mind throughout your life there will be more hard things to get over... Just learn from each experience and know you will be hurt many times in life. But it will always get better. Don't forget the lessons you learn. They build character!

Hahahahaha DON"T EVEN TRY TO GET OVER IT!
Just enjoy that it happened and remember that AWWWsome feeling of true-blue love! lol
everyone of us adults has had their first true love and cherish it with the kind of love you have for a baby kitten or a puppy.Would I have been happy with him instead of the love I share with my husband, now? no. We were bright-eyed happy children then.
now we are matured. I still know him and we still sparkle at each other but it is because of a memory only the two of us share...and it will stay that way.(wink, wink)
good luck !!

We think it's hard because we thought we knew for sure that it would work out, it just didn't. Eventually you will get over it, it just takes FOREVER to.

i dont think you ever really get over them. you always have a special place in your heart for them. even when it ended on a bad note that was still your first love.i think that people tend to put up with alot more drama with your true first love, then you would with your second or third love.you seem to learn a little bit more as time goes on.
