all heat tools do some damage to the hair. the type of dryer makes a difference in how much damage. i am a hair stylist and i recommend the Farouk Systems line of CHI hairdryers. they make 3 or 4 models in differing price ranges all designed for professionals. the cheapest one is $60-$70 i think your price. These dryers split the water molecules within the hair instead of heating them to boiling out of the hair, which leads to hair "smoking" when you are drying it and the fried feeling. CHI flat irons are also well worth the money.

Hair dryers do damage your hair, but if they are only used once in a while, they are OK. Hair dryers can make your hair too dry and it can also make your hair crack.
