My husband has a large family. He has about 10 aunts and uncles and they all have an average of 3 kids each. Usually what they do on Eid is give 5 dollars per child in the family but we can't afford to spend that much money. 5 dollars per person and there's at least 30 kids, including our own nieces and nephews! Would it be acceptable if me and my husband just gave out Eid cards for each family instead of money?

Of course. The idea is to let people know you are thinking about them, and that you care. You shouldn't have to go in a financial hole to do that.

Gift giving shouldn't be something that will break you. In the spirit of giving a gift, even something as simple as a card should suffice. To put it this way, the reciever should be happy that you even thought of them. I know how hard it is to come up with the money to buy gifts...perhaps you could give them something homemade (like a jar of cookie mix or bean soup...something they could enjoy as a family).

For cookie mix in a jar, just layer the dry ingredients of a recipe (like flour, brown sugar, chocolate chips, etc.) and include the recipe and the other ingredients they'll need to make the dough (like eggs, milk). Put a pretty piece of foil or fabric on the top, and tie it with a bow.

Since Eid represents the end of Ramadan, and the break in fasting, what better gift than cookies :)

YES! why not unless they are rude they wouldnt care. eid is not about the money anyway. you could use that as a excuse if they do say something. just go to the dollar store and give them something cute someting they would like a toy gun or doll or crayons you wont spend that much money buts that is your choice !Happy Eid! ^_^
