Howdy.. I recently moved to the country.... out here we have to take our garbage to the dump - sadly there is no recycle facility - we do have the option of burning our paper garbage though.... so I am asking is it more environmentally friendly to BURN our paper or should we take it to the dump too???

(concerned with global warming etc...)

If you are concerned with global warming, taking your paper to the dump will sequester the carbon. If you burn it, it just goes back into the atmosphere contributing to global warming. What's better to do is to make compost out of your paper so that you sequester the carbon and make it useful for planting trees and stuff.

Don't have the attitude of thinking your burning of trash is too small to make a difference. Although true, if you and everyone else had that attitude, it would no longer be a small problem. It's like saying that spitting gum on the sidewalk is not a problem. Sure, if only one person did it, it wouldn't be a big deal. But once everyone starts doing it, you have a big mess.

This summer In Malaysia, everyone burned their trash thinking that it didn't matter. But then, it got so bad that they had to close down the airports because the soot from everyone's fires make it too smoggy for planes to take off and land.

Burning your paper products should cause no harm at all. Unless you are burning several tons a day, then you might have some issues. Scientific evidence suggests that global warming is a natural process, not human induced. The earth's temperature has been rising for the past 10,000 years.

Collect all of your recyclables in separate containers. When you have a quantity, compress them into smaller sizes. Bundle these compressed piles and make a trip when you have a large enough quantity to the local paper, metal, glass and plastic scrap dealers. They will pay you for the scrap by weight. You can also build your own composter for the food and biodegradable garbage.

In small quantities you're probably better off burning it than letting it sit in a dump. However, the combustion of organics (paper) does produce greenhouse gases, thus contributing its own environmental detriments.

Well the amount of CO2 u produce compared to the rest of the world is nothing. The CO2 has not increased due to the plants . They take in CO2 and give us back the O2 part in a process called photosynthesis . The CO2 helps the plants make there food .
