Break people then give them Jesus. That's such a pitiful approach. It takes a broken person to accept Christ! That's just horrible. I don't even have the words to describe how disgusting this is. Those quotes are from a rotten person.
Better to find broken people and give them the opportunity for an education, or give them mental help if they need it. Don't feed them a bunch of lies about how Jesus will make it all ok.
A few posts below me "Lisa" makes it clear that she has not seen roots.

It is not the preacher or the preaching that breaks the inmate, it is the system. Obviously you have never been inside a prison so you do not understand anything about the horrible conditions under which an inmate must live. The violence is constant, murders happen all the time and the guards are mostly butt heads. When the preachers come the inmates get treated like human beings. Just because a person is in prison doesn't mean that he is not entitled to forgiveness and to be treated like a human being. Being deprived of your liberty is punishment enough----yes it does break a person of wild behavior, usually. There are the real animals that have to be caged like animals because they cannot be broken, but those are relatively few in number, and they COULD be broken by the power of God if we were allowed contact with them. Get off your high horse and come down to earth with the rest of us people.

They taught Kunta Kinte his new name rather easily. They broke him for running away. I don't know that breaking a person by putting them in prison can be called 'conditioning'. It is a punishment, yes, but not terribly effective at effecting lasting behavioural change. There is too much recidivism.
People in prison accept Christ because they want to get out on parole. I would be interested in knowing how many continue to be religious after they are released.

How touching, by the way, that you are so accepting of this preacher's quote! Despite your cynicism! Prison ministry is not entirely about evangelism. It is of tremendous help and comfort to Christians who have perhaps lost their way and got into trouble. They are the finest evangelists there, as they are eager to share their faith with their fellow prisoners. You appear to be confusing the cure with the injury! Who has broken or is breaking these people? Not the Church, not Christians. Christians are simply reaching out and offering an antidote to their pain. This pain has its roots in all manner of things, but to accuse Christians of breaking these people in order to convert them is as inconsistent and illogical as to blame a doctor treating an injury for causing the injury in the first place! Perhaps you should explore what prison ministry is all about before making these half-baked comments.

People in prison are broken???? Some yes others no, most honestly learn how to be better criminals.
The army uses that strategy in boot camp, break The recruit down and rebuild him as a soldier. It is good indoctrination and therefore works well for Christianity.

Maybe you think that only some people are in prison.
when I look at what I would like to be and do and see what I make of it i could call me a broken one too.
And isn't it great that somebody is helping in the hospitals ?
For some people it's the only place where they would accept help.

definite, torture is between the fastest procedures yet early existence abuse, organic disaster, death of a loved one some thing terrible can smash someone emotionally. some human beings are waiting to handle more beneficial than others with out having overwhelmed with the help of what befell yet once you're overwhelmed you're extremely a lot emotionally damaged. the great thing about emotionally damaged is that the basically way out is to emotionally mend which in many circumstances leads to a significantly better man or woman than the single previous to the breakdown.

It is so funny that no one calls on God until they get into a bind
So you are correct on this
No it is not a Noble Cause.
It is a weakness in their part that they call on Him in vain

In a religious sense yes, but we have laws on earth that are not in heaven, I don't care how much a criminal has accepted Jesus, he is to serve his time for his crime.
