Yes, I do enjoy making small talk with people that sit next to me on an airplane. I'm a very out-going person and I love to talk with other people. And who knows? Maybe they'll have an interesting story or two that you may uncover. Maybe you'll even make a new friend.

What I do is sort of 'feel' out the person next to me. If they're reading intently, I'll leave them be and not strike up a conversation. If they're sort of figity, I'll say hello and might ask where they're going. I'll know by how they respond if they want to chat. Traveling is exciting for me and I do love to meet new people. And, it's very true that the world is small and seems to be getting even smaller. It is certainly possible you might run into that person again. Especially if you're business traveling.

Sometimes depending on the atmosphere and their aura, or how they present themselves. If they look like they might be rude, I won't even try to say hi. Sometimes though I do engage in small talk, it's a small world, you might run into them again.

Not really.

If you start talking it's hard to stop without feeling awkward. Sometimes, you do find some really interesting people. However, you also find people who are talkers (must talk--can't stand silence) or folks who are terrified of flying .....

Yes, I love to talk to people that I've just met. I usually ask where they're going and where they're from. It helps to pass the time.
