Your body naturally burns carbs first prior to burning any fat. This is why it's essential for you to exercise for 30 minutes or longer to start burning fat. On the average, the body uses carbs for the first 20 minutes of heavy exercises, then reverts to fats once they are depleted. You will not deplete muscle mass unless you are consuming a low carb and/or low fat diet. If the body does not have fat nor carbs to use as energy, it will then use protein.

exercise at a slower rate
when doing cardio workout thats exactly what you are doin, getting the blood pumping and burning calories which indirectly burns fat

doning exercises slower to the point where you won't run out of oxygen and have to go the another source (carbs/glucose) you will burn fat directly

saldy the stomache area is the last place to lose the fat so you would have to work hard to get there

get a good heart rate monitor that will help you calculate your ideal range. while working out it can not only tell you what your heart rate is, but the one i have tells me how many calories i've burned and how many miles i ran. when you are done you get a summary of what you've accomplished. good luck!
