If my question wasn't clear - I am asking about using a car, for a long time, in NY, while the car is actually from CT- registered and licensed to a relative who lives there. Is that illegal?

Not too sure what you mean... As long as your vehicle is registered and insured it can be driven in any state. If you just moved to NY, technically you have to get a NY license and change your plates and registration within 30 days. If you get insurance in NY, they will require that you change your registration and get a NY license. If you keep your old insurance from your previous address... thats insurance fraud. Tons of people do it and you wont really get in trouble for it... but I wouldnt risk it. Just register and insure the car in NY.

Long enough to get it registered in NY if you are a NT resident.
