I don't know the names of the notes.
My dad just showed me where you put your fingers and what such.
I can read music because I have played the trumpet for over 4 years, But I don't know how to read tabs. I have been trying to learn the basic cords and get to know the fret board. But it's all so confusing. Any tips? Website? Books?
Everything helps because I really plan on sticking with the guitar, music interests me greatly.

Tabs is a music staff made just for guitars. The top line is the top string, which is E. The second is B, the third is G, the fourth is D, the fifth is A and the sixth is E but below the staff. The numbers on the tabs means where to you finger, which the frets corrspond with the numbers. But they do have regular sheet music too but I sorta like tabs cause the is about 5 differnet ways you can play one note(kinda crazy). It is actually very easy to learn

Mel Bay is the best especially if you can already read music.

I have the Mastering the guitar 1A book which looks like.
http://www.melbay.com/product.asp?ProductID=96620bcd
This book teaches notes, chords and tabs. It covers everything!

Once you learn a few chords, you can play any guitar books that have the chords on the top of the melodies. (in some piano books too).

Good Luck!!! :0)

Good for you for picking up an instrument! One very good easy beginner series for playing instruments is by a fellow named Mel Bay. He has series of books on every kind of instrument and he's great for beginners - easy to understand and covers the basics. You can probably find his books and others on e-bay or half.com for fairly reasonable prices. Keep with it!

Since you know how to read music you may want to be a bass guitarist or play a nylon string guitar.
