The FDA allows a certain amount of bug parts to be in our food products because there is no way to keep the place completely sterile. That goes for ALL possessed foods ~ not just peanut butter.

Do you know how many bugs you swallow in a year from yawning or sleeping? Plus not to mention the dust mights in your bed and the other microscopic that are on your skin at all times ~ even in the shower.

Go ahead and eat the peanut butter ~ it is yummy and good for you.

Well, so did I, and there is no such thing on the FDA pages anywhere. this crap has been circulating since February 2005, and there is no basis in fact to it. You are repeating something that has been told, re-told and stretched so far out that it bears no relation to the truth. Peanuts are hulled, washed, sorted, heated and blown dry before being ground up for peanut butter. If you had ever seen peanut butter in the making, you'd not repeat this any more. I feel sorry for your family, being denied one of the best foods there is for children, and adults. Enjoy your misery!

They do not intentionally grind up anything like that in your food. The FDA sets limits on the amount of contaminants that our food can legally contain. It would be impossible to expect our food producers to be 100% perfect in keeping out contaminants -- your kitchen certainly isn't that clean. Your peanut butter is NOT made of 30% bugs.

That likely wouldn't have been the first bug youve eaten without knowing it. If you wanted to avoid eating insects altogether, you'd probably have to stop eating produce and produce products entirely.

Insects are not poisonous and there are much more important things to worry about than eating an occasional bug.

Get over it.

I don't know is that is true, but I wouldn't be overly surprized. In a Burt's Bee's lipbalm, they also grind up a certain bug and use it as an ingredient. Gelatin also has some levels of ground horse hoofs. Personally, I don't mind it.

probably just the bugs in the peanuts too small to see-no biggie I'll still eat it.I worked in a veggie packing plant-do you know the only difference between the green giant veggies and store brand are that they go through the cleaners one time more-you'd be disgusted to see all the chopped up snake parts in your green beans before cleaning

peanut butter is not the only product that the FDA allows a certain percentage of insect parts and rodent droppings in...i saw the list of products and percentages quite a while ago, it is disgusting, but other than growing your own food, what can you do?

Look at it this way- extra protein!!
Insects are actually a good source of nutrition...
Besides, we always fear the unknown- bugs are eaten all over the world as part of a regular diet. If you grew up consuming crickets or whatnot you would think nothing of it...

There are probably bugs in LOTS of processed foods and all kinds of things we don't want to know about!
