My mini Dachshund is acting very bad lately, instead of pooing outside he holds it in all day and then right before he goes to bed or the very next day just acts like he doesnt have to go outside and poos in my house/Office! I take him outside and stand out there for a good 20-30 minutes and he goes pee but then acts like he doesnt have to go poo even after walking around for quite a while, he is almost a year and has just changed from a very good well behaved dog to a very snappy and mouth do whatever it likes dog...did I do something wrong? I dont even correct him anymore when he does something wrong I just scold him because when I corrected him thats when he started to get snappy and everything...ugh am I just a bad small dog owner?

I really didnt want to neurter him because I wanted to breed him but if it does I will....

he goes to the door when he wants to tell us hes decided to go outside and if we dont yell at ours he never listens, he barks I say No firmly he looks at me and keeps barking till I smack his rump with a newspaper then he shuts up, I am sorry but by far this is the worse dog I have ever had and I have had alot in my life, they all passed on god bless them, but this little ankle biter is a very big pain and he never use to be this way till daddy stopped correcting him also, now he just walks all over us and my husband doesnt seem to care, maybe because the dog didnt eat his 50 dollar pair of shoes, ugh besides that I just want to correct him fairly and find a way to make him a good dog again!

The problem is that you own a mini dachsund. The mini dachsund is by far the most annoying and disobedient and retarded animal on Earth. I do need to state that the following applies to miniature dachsunds, regular dachsunds have character traits similar to a beagle or some other docile medium sized hound.

My family has had several mini dachsunds over the years and they are all the same - untrainable and loud. Your choice of a Dachsund has doomed you to 12 to 14 years of cleaning up his waste. If he is anything like the other dachsunds I have known, he will place his little deposits on top of carpet or a surface that camoflages it, so you can have the pleasure of cleaning it off of your shoes, too!

It sounds as if he is also entering the phase of his life (which lasts his entire life) where he barks at everyone and everything. Your friends will be tortured by the little imp. And, despite every best effort to make the little imp like your friends, he won't. You will be lucky if he makes it 14 years without ever biting someone and drawing blood. (This is something that EVERY mini Dachsund I have ever known has done). Your friends will hate your dog, even though your friends may be polite and not tell you while they avoid your house at all costs. I hope you are a heavy sleeper, because he will bark like crazy on windy nights.

In all fairness, I do have a friend who has two very well behaved and timid Mini Dachsunds. These are very much the exception and not the rule. She has 4 kids and a LOT of traffic through her house, so the dogs are used to new people. She is also a tree hugger extraordinaire and has meditated them into some permanent zen-trance. I don't know what brilliant trick of metaphysics she used to accomplish this, but I do know that you could kick one of the little weiners and he wouldn't bat an eye. Unfortunately, the behavior of these dogs is so far outside the realm of usual mini dachsund behavior, I would consider her results unobtainable and unrealistic.

The good news is that you are not a terrible small dog owner. The bad news is that you own an inherently retarded impish little weasle dog that WILL NOT CHANGE. I repeat, he will not change and you are doomed to 14 years of link disposal, a loud yappy thing that won't leave your friends alone, carpets ruined from you (and your friends) stepping in his little surprise packages.

And if that's not bad enough, he will suffer from back problems and heavy vet bills for the last two years of his life until you are given the ulitimate (dis)pleasure of having to put him to sleep.

These are the facts and here's my honest advice: get rid of him, since there is no way around these terrible traits. If you are single I can't tell you how important it is for you NOT to have a mini dachsund. The rule is simple: The amount of time it takes for a man to like your possesive little dachsund is equal to the amount of time it takes for him to never want to see you again.

You may think that I'm being mean or bitter, but I am giving you the God's honest truth. Others might follow up this posting by saying that I didn't do one thing or another right, or I didn't nurture the little beasts. Not true, I have had (and do) several pets from hermit crabs to sheep and horses and none come closer to being demon spawn than miniature dachsunds.

Don't be tempted! Don't take others' advice! Send them and their dachsunds back to the desperation and denial of their miserable lives underneath the rocks from which they crawled and find another soul for your mini dachsund to zap and free your life!

Dogs are pack animals. I think your daschund needs to realize that you are the alpha male in the pack. You said that he started getting snappy once you started scolding him and that you don’t bother scolding him anymore.

You can be assertive without scolding. A Simple but assertive no will help. You have to me consistent and not give up. He will get the picture.

Also, since he is only 1 yr old you should set up a routine with him. Take him out every morning once you get up and later on during the day.

He will start associating the morning walks not only as time with you but also do his business then.

i have a minature dashound to. but he goes to the door everytime he has to go out very good that way. if were gone for a long time then he might have a accident in the house, we never put him in a cage. he's the most loveie dog always wants to be where ever we are never wants to be alone. yelling at him dosen't work. we just put our hand up in front of his face and he quits doing whatever he shouldn't be. mine is a little over a year old. we also had him fixed when he was about 9 months old. best dog there is to have. good luck with yours. not one problem with ours except they like to bark alot..

if u get a mini dachshund it is going to be much louder than a mini pincher because they bark a lot. So if you live in a apartment it would be bad to get a dachshund.

When you correct him and he snaps that means he is saying "I AM THE BOSS" get him a trainer (it is costly but worht it) and you need to watch him at all times, and make sure if he does try to poo in the house you catch him in the act, scold ihm, and take him to where he is suppose to potty and then praise him if he does. If you catch them in the act you can usually stop them before they go so that when you do take them outside they will go.

Don't ignore the possibility that he's in pain and excretion hurts. Check with a vet before blaming him or yourself. A similar thing happened to our female mini dachshund.

It's not your fault. Get him a cage. My dachshund has a cage that she sleeps in at night. She has never pooped in it and has only peed in it once or twice. She doesn't want to mess up her cage. She is a year old also.

At one year, a lot of dogs "forget" their training. It's adolescence for them, and they test the limits and see what they can get away with, just like adolescents of any species, humans included.

You'll have to be very vigilant in continuing his training, just like you did when he was a puppy, to get him over this.
