Geez....what a way to end the year - answering fart questions.
Anyway, actually you would gain weight after releasing methane, since methane is lighter than your body mass, which is mostly water....notice farts go up not down. So....any contained fart is trying to rise within the body, thus lightening the body weight. Releasing the fart is similar to deflating a hot air balloon.....it gets heavier and goes down.
Farts are salvation to fat people, if one had enough gas internally, hey...one may not weigh anything at all.....
Hope this helps.....

I don't know what program you are following to lose weight, but I think if you can lose 8-10 pounds a month that's great, but if all you can manage is 5-10 lbs a month, then you should be happy with that too because you are still losing weight and in the long run, you will still reach your goal right? This is important to remember because it is easy to want to see changes right way and the frustration of not seeing big changes leads us to give up. Here's the thing though, if you get frustrated and give up, in ten months you'll be back where you started or even heavier, but in ten months and 7lbs a month, you will have lost 70lbs! Good luck to you, I know how hard it is to lose weight and keep it off and the only thing I can tell you is that I never could until I decided to make changes that would last my whole life which for me meant changing one thing at a time instead of everything at once. I lost weight more slowly, but it stayed off and I feel so much better now because my lifestyle and outlook are better too.

If this were true there wouldn't be so many fat people. I'd be a size 6 myself!! I've never heard of that either. Now releasing the bowels can take a pound or two off. It's called colon cleansing and it's effective.

No. Farts (flatus, really) is gas, and doesn't weigh much. Certainly not a half a pound.
Weight is affected by many things, and changes throughout the day. Marks weight loss could easily have been attributed to his hydration status.

Yes, if you farted you will lose 5 pounds. And if you breathe you will put on weight, quick stop breathing else you'll get fat.
