Salt, in moderation, is not bad for you. It is, in fact, essential for human and most animal life.

Too much salt, just like too much of a lot of things, can be bad for you. It interferes with absorption rates and messes up fluid balances in your organs/body/blood systems and can aggravate high blood pressure, etc. All of which can be deadly.

But dinking too much water everyday can also be deadly. So it's not salt itself that is the real problem here---it's the eating habits of people that are.

I have never heard of salt coming from oil wells. That doesn't sound right to me, though it is possible that oil, coming from underground, as much natural salt does, could be found where salt is mined.

Most natural salt , being a mineral, comes from the earth, whether it is mined underground or is scraped or collected from a seeded bed or from a disappearing lake bed that had water high in salt content.

Salt substitute is made chemically or synthetically now. It's better for you, but still, if you use too much of it, even it can be bad for you.

Many foods are naturally salty or high in sodium chloride. So eat those in moderation and avoid adding salt to foods if you can.

There is a website called lowsodiumcooking.com that you might want to check out.

Standard books on nutrition from the library or info from an RD (registered dietician) can help you plan and prepare healthy meals low in salt, that still taste good. Which means you have a higher chance of actually sticking to the plan and eating what's healthy for you.

RDs can be found in most hospitals and clinics and your own familt dr may be able to help you with getting info from one or helping you cut down on salt in your diet.

Salt or sodium is something that occours in your body naturally. It is not too much salt that is bad for you, it is too much Iodine (which they add to iodized salt for some reason?) Sea salt and natural salt does not have it. So it is Iodine found in Salt which effects your blood pressure and your thyroid if you abuse it,

Nothing is bad for you in moderation... not even arsenic (found naturally in apples)! The human body can tolerate a lot of damaging things but too much over long periods of time are naturally no good.

Salt does not come from oil wells (as far as I know?) It comes from natural deposits, dried up seas and oceans and bodies of salt water. These dried up bodies of water can be found NEAR oil wells but IN them... never heard that? Could be anything is possible?

As far as I know, most of our salt comes from Nevada.

no salt does not come from oil wells. companies take ocean water and put just a tiny bit in a container thats outside. when the salt water evaporates only the salt is left. salt is bad 4 u cuz it clogs ur arteries and it de-hydrates u.

Salt raises your bloodpressure and causes you to retain fluid that makes you fatter and your heart to have to pump harder so it raises your blood pressure...

Rock salt comes from caves. These caves are also the ideal place to STORE petroleum products and radioactive residue in containers. That's probably why people are associating salt mining with oil.

There are other methods for obtaining salt as well. Please see the link below and it should answer all the questions you have.
