I just got my first tat yesterday, and I have heard different suggestions from everyone. My tattooist gave me a sheet of instructions for things such as when to take the bandage off (1-3 hours... I left mine on for about 2. I've heard different tattooists give different instructions) and suggested lubriderm and a few others as far as lotion goes. I've gotten different product suggestions from everybody. Right now I've been using Antibacterial Softsoap to wash it several times a day and blotting it dry with a paper towel and using Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula with Vitamin E to keep it moisturized. I have been washing it VERY lightly with my fingers out of caution, and there is still a little blood on one of my fills, but I'm not sure if that's normal? Is it OK to rub a little harder with my fingers to get that off? I've had this tat for less than 24 hours, but I really really love how it came out. I want to make sure it's gonna stay that way!

First, use A+D Ointment. Thats the best stuff ever for your tattoo as far as im concerned. Thats what everyone reccomends to me. I used it the entire time my tattoos were healing and they came out perfectly....oh yeah...don't scratch!

I always use the brown label A&D ointment that can be found in the baby care aisle.
As far as the bleeding, that can continue on and off for a day or 2, as long as it is not pouring out blood you are fine. The lotion can cause the bleeding to last a little longer if you put too much on, it moisturizes the skin, and the moisture can cause minor clotting difficulties at first. Just rinse with the soap and water and put a very thin layer of lotion on every 3 hours and you should be good to go in 4-5 days.

Dude check it out... if you follow the sheet your artist gave you and just keep washing it with some antibac soap and putting a non greasy lotion on it itll turn out fine. And about the blood, dont worry bout it as the rest of you tat will scab up in the next week anyway. Personally i did pretty much what your doing except that i use lubriderm for all 4 of mine and they are all still the exact same as when i got em.

you are right in washing it but only twice a day there is this stuff called tattoo goo most tattoo shops will have it if you cant buy that try bactracin most stores have it always keep it moist dont use lotion it will draw the ink out the same with vasculine your tattoo is supposed to feel like your skin only a little rougher there is not supposed to be a scab and for heavens sake don't rub it or itch it you could get a staf infection that way and its ok to keep a bandage but make sure to let it breathe every once and a while in the day

No matter who says what go to your tattooist and ask about Tattoo Goo. You can even check out their website. You NEVER want to use a petrleum base product on a fresh tat! Petroleum base products will draw out the color and suffocate the tattoo. Tattoo Goo is an all natural product that lets the tattoo breathe and won't clog your pores. It cuts healing time in half!
Hope this helps and happy tattooing!

I just got my tat one week ago. This is my 5th and with each I have been told diff after care directions. The newest one I was told to use brown label a and d ointment or tattoo goo for 2 days then switch to a unscented lotion like luberderm or tattoo goo lotion. but keep in mind wash it with the anti bact soap about 3 times a day.
good luck

I have many tattoos and they have all turned out great and I;ve done the same after care treatment for all of them. DONT EVER USE NEOSPORIN! Dont use vaseline either they smother your tattoo and dont allow it to breathe. Dont use scented lotions either, use curelle or lubridurm about 4 times a day. Cleaning it with antibacterial soap is fine. I would be careful as far as rubbing it harder with your fingers. Your tattoo will appear bloody or scabby for about 2 weeks dont pick at the scabs or blood, this will permantly damage your tattoo. I have a tattoo with ballet shoes and they are very light pink and they appeared to be bloody for about a week at least. Its normal for it to look a little bloody. You have to have patience with tattoos. As long as you are taking care of it, in about 2 weeks it will look how you want it to look. Good Luck!

I recently just a got a tattoo myself and my tattoo artist told me to use First Aid Webber vitamin e ointment which you could by at your local drugstore. My tattoo healed really fast. I would not rub harder. You don't want to peel off any scabs. Keep putting on the vitamin e. Hope this helps.

DON'T USE NEOSPORIN!
It fades tattoos.

I'm not sure about the blood. I'd let it go and heal on it's own. Rubbing it could mess it up. Tattoo artist I know suggest vitamin E.

leave the bloody spot alone. as long as it isn't bleeding now, then there's no cause for concern. some of the blood has most likely become part of the scab on your tattoo. it will fall off on it's own when it's ready. don't pick at it and don't scatch it.
