You do not list an email or I would have sent you an in depth explanation of what went on between my vet and myself.
For torbaynew... (about my not being really clear, or something. Whatever....)
11 days after I shipped 2 puppies, new owner stated her vet said they had coccidia when she had them checked within 72 hour limit. She stated one got well within 1 day and one died. I requested vet bills---PAID bill for recovered puppy. Requested her vet contact my vet with autopsy report on pup that died--no autopsy done...offered to have my vet call her vet---nasty email wanting money for vet bill--restated have her vet call my vet--still waiting....DID NOT pay vet bill.
I just wanted a breeders advise from their experience. I really did not need all the capital letters and exclamation points, I get the point, your not fond of breeders that do not have Champion dogs.
There are people that are physically and financially unable to show.
I prefer not to be blasted when I ask for guidance

OK, JR why would you want me to quit breeding? Aside from the fact your answer gets you 2 points.
Have you ever gotten a dog from me? I am sorry, I do not have you in my book of owners, or on my want list.
Please refresh my memory as to when you got a dog from me that was not as I stated it would be.

Goodness, lady, how many animals do you think I have?
View my profile, my vet has been my family vet for 20 years.
His fees are still well within reason, with no office fee.
Did you fail to not notice I also mentioned "physically" unable to show.

Why would you automatically assume my dogs do not meet AKC standards and that I would automatically fall in the catagory with irresponsible breeders?
Granted, I have improved my stock and my standards as I learn more. When I first started I never even knew there were standards. I also did not say I have never shown, just that I am financially and physically unable to now.
Showing was an eye opener, show people as a whole, tend to be really rude and nasty, but I did learn alot and I put into effect what I learned.
I now know to test eyes, knees, and hearing, in addition to the standard heart, hernia, bite and soft spot checks.
This is being done on my young girls individually, by age two (before breeding)

I don't show dog, and I never have or will. I don't breed dogs, and I never have or will.

But I have a lot of common sense!

You don't know that the puppy died as a result of coccidia, which I ran its course in a day (either to recovery or death). Perhaps she didn't get an autopsy done. But you, or your vet, should still be put in contact with her vet before you fork over a dime!

I assume you have copies of the bills you paid to the vet for the recovered puppy. The contact information for her vet should be on those bills...you can contact that vet yourself without her assistance.

As for showing dogs...that's your choice. If you're breeding ethically, if your dogs still have pedigrees and AKC papers, and if your buyers don't care that the lines aren't champion, then I see no reason why you should show if you don't want to.

I read your previous question and answers. I haven't a clue how to test or treat coccidia. But you should definately make sure that every single dog and every inch of your environment are clear of it before you have another litter.

There are a lot of "depends" here.

Did you have a contract for these puppies? Is the wording for such documentation if a puppy dies listed on the contract?
Im a little confused did you pay the bill for the recovered puppy?

If she is not giving you all the info and will not give you the vet info I wouldnt worry about it. Until she gives you that information I would not claim the bill or claim responsibility for the bill. If she emails you again, stay calm and collected and again ask her for the vet information so that this can get resolved.

She may have forgotten to have an autopsy done and may be feeling a little pissed at herself for that. You might consider if she can provide vet number and he can confirm puppies had coccidia refunding her money for the dead puppy anyway.

It does seem odd that within 72 hours they were tested positive for coccidia and 1 got better in 1 day and the other died. I am in rescue and I just dealt with a litter of puppies with coccidia and none of them got better in 1 day, it took several days and 1 of them a is still sick and we are going on 2 months.

If you have a time limit on your contract once that is done I wouldnt worry about it anymore. You could also send her a certified letter (make sure you save a copy for yourself) giving her 30 working days to respond (Maybe even 10) from the date she recieves the letter with the vet information or she will forfiet any monies owed.

While I disagree with BYB's as welll I will not bash you, but I will beg of you to think about what you are doing. And ask you if for just 1 weekend you could go spend time at a "High Kill" shelter doing some volunteering.

Wasn't all this posted on the last post?????I am SURE I saw it there....so WHY are you posting it again???????

If I sold 2 puppies that had coccidia within 72 hours of sale...one of them dead....I would treat ALL my dogs, evaluate my kennel set up, disinfect all that can be, and NOT breed again until I am SURE it is cleared up.
If the bill you paid was for fecals and ALBON to treat coccidia....I would ASSUME that the dog HAD coccidia. Not try and say it didn't come from you, and your vet said that it probably came from the new environment, or whatever....I am not going back to the old post for exact wording. There IS a problem. YOU have a SMALL breed that cannot tolerate things like coccidia like my dogs can. And to top it all off....you SHIP these FRAIL little creatures to who knows where. THAT is a combination for disaster.
I could care less if you are a "puppies-for-profit" breeder. I have no love for Chihuahuas, so it is not my breed that you are doing that to. No, not everyone can show, but ANYONE who is saying they are a good breeder and sells puppies, CAN get their dogs to a few shows to make sure they are breeding QUALITY examples of the breed. Shows are pretty cheap to enter, there are handlers...with tiny dogs, you can EASILY get a good junior to handler the dog FOR FREE..or a small gift. So there really is NO excuse. You make money off the dogs you breed. Where does all that money go??????? Do you make a living off the dog breeding????? You can also breed your females to champion males to improve your stock. You must be able to pay a stud fee.
Don't you do that now??????

Bottom line....you sold puppies that had coccidia. Do what you have to do to make sure that does not happen in the future. ASSUME that it is carried by YOUR dogs and act accordingly!! That is at least a CYA move!

Oh, and e-mailing me is VERY easy!!! Many people have figured it out!!! Stick @yahoo on it and push the send button!!!

Honestly I use to breed years ago AKC Rotts. Unless she can provide you with proof from her vet, and the bills I would just so called sit on it! I would not send her any thing with out this proof. If she threatens to take you to court tell her to go ahead. The judge is going to ask for the proof and if she can not give it to you then she will not be able to give it to him Right! You are not being unreasonable when you are as kin g for these things. You just want to know what was wrong and asking for proof. Hope this helps

This is a stupid question on my part, I'm sure. If you're financially unable to show, how are you financially able to give several dogs their vet needs?

Ah, good to clarify. Although my boss is legally handicapped, and he does in fact breed dogs, and they're all shown. He pays a handler because the conformation and health of the dogs is above and beyond his personal desires. He's stated many times that if he was unable to show his dogs to prove them to standard, he would stop breeding.

Of course, I guess not every breeder can be responsible, otherwise we wouldn't have so many animals being killed, right?
