i guess its because they are probably region 1 us and my player is region 2 so need to hack it to give it multi region

There is no hack, no regular DVD player will play HD DVDs they both use a different laser to read the discs although HD DVD players will play regular DVDs

J.J. is correct - no hack will work.

The GDVD-148 is not HD compatible. It is incapable of playing HD-DVD's under any circumstances.
