I checked with the local radio shack and they couldn't help. Is there a type of hub or switch?

Radio Shack used to carry a TOSLINK Switcher, but maybe not any more. Anyway, if you do a search on eBay for "TOSLINK Switch", you'll find dozens for sale. Here's the search:

If your A/V receiver has both an optical and a coax, you can use both. If neither the TV nor the DVD have coax outputs you can get a converter: http://www.smarthome.com/77709.html

Here is a source for optical switch http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10423&cs_id=1042302&p_id=2946&seq=1&format=2&style=
