If it's instant coffee, that's fine. That's quicker than boiling the water on the stove. If you mean drip coffee you might run into problems with the thermostat on the machine. On mine if the water is too hot it won't work till the water cools down. If you're in a rush in the morning you may want to buy a machine with a timer so the coffee can be there to greet you when you wake up.

Inside a hot water heater contains metal that can and do corrode. Hot water sitting in the tank can even dissolve metal over time. So it might not be a good idea to make coffee or even cook with hot tap water. It's always a good idea to run your cold water a minute or two, as well, before using it.
And besides, coffee will taste much better.
Enjoy!!

How are you making this coffee?
I have always been under the impressin that fresh cold water was what to use when making drip coffee, or like Mr Coffee. I can't remember why I do that. If you are making instant or some such thing, hot tap water might be ok if it is hot enough for you. Hope this helps some.

If you're using a coffee maker, it makes no difference as the appliance will regulate the temperature on it's own (best case scenario: using hot tap water in a coffee maker speeds up the brewing process). Instant coffee with hot tap water... Sure, why not? Though depending on what minerals are in the water, it may taste different than say if you heat your water in the microwave.

If you are making coffee in a coffee maker like Mr. Coffee or something like that, you use fresh COLD water, because the coffee makers heat the water, and to put hot water in would overheat and burn up the coffee maker.

Do not use hot water if your house was built before 1983. The use of lead in solder on drinking water pipes was banned after that. Before then lead can leach into the standing water in the pipes and very easily in hot water pipes.

Some people prefer to use cold water since hot water has been sitting longer (in the household water heater), the cold water is fresher.

It's all about preference.
