Shorter is fine, cocktail or tea length would be nice. No strapless or spaghetti straps without a jacket, though.

It depends on your bridesmaids and whether or not you'll be outside very much. (A short dress would be OK for New Years for instance, since you'd expect to be inside most of the time.) I know that I'd be OK outside in colder weather, but I have a couple of bridesmaids that are very sensitive to the cold and turn blue pretty quickly. I'm getting married in October, and am planning to have long dresses for this reason. (Otherwise I might have gone with tea-length dresses.)

Darker, richer colours may also be a more popular choice for fall (wine, cranberry, royal blue, chocolate brown, etc.), but it really depends on what will look good on your girls and what you will like the look of in your wedding photos. (They only have to wear the dress for a day - you'll have the photos for the rest of your life. What do you like the look of?)

as long as the dress is not sleeveless or made of a too lightweight material (like chiffon) anything goes for November. get a farmer's almanac and check the average temperatures for your area - that way you will know if velvet will be too warm or satin to chilly.

most of November is under the astrological sign of Scorpio, and one of the best colors for that time of year is purple, and the stone is amethyst, if that helps you pick your colors. Purple tends to look good on most skin types, so it's a nice neutral color choice when you have various shades of bridesmaids.

congratulations!

As long as the colors are rich and not pastels, anything you want. It's your wedding and it should be as you like it. If the dresses are strapless or sleeveless, get a nice wrap with a brooch to close it to keep the ladies warm while still being able to hold their flowers.

All I got to say is look at your bridemaids... body type skin types and keep that in mind. My cousin got married and she had all these over weight girls (hey I am not thin either) in silky a line dresses- it was terrible. They were all shiney and bumpy and need slips and they looked terrible. The one girl who weight about 90 pounds look good. Just get a dress that fit everyone body type or do david's bridal mix and match and just let them pick style- you pick the color. I wanted pink bridemaids dress but switch to brown with pink sashes because not everyone looks good in pink. Just keep your friends in mind.

THe best thing to think about is the weather. Strapless tends to be really cold for november. Just think about temperture when your also thinking about colors.

Short/long requirement is determined by whether it is in the day and the formality fo the event, NOT by season.

Also they should compliment the bride's gown's style.
