Deleting programs will make no difference as that will only free up Hard Drive space not RAM, closing down programs that you are not using will help your computer run quicker as it will have less to deal with in its memory.

Also you could try increasing you computer's virtual memory:

Failing that you could upgrade your computers RAM which is not to expensive to do nowadays.

Best places to buy some new RAM would be
http://www.newegg.com/ - USA
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/home/ - UK

Just make sure you get the right type, speed etc... for your computer, Good Luck!

It's probably a good idea to buy some more RAM no matter what, it's not too expensive nowadays (something like £50 ($100), to get a reasonable upgrade) - If you ask the retailer nicely, they should be able to recommend which type you need and even may fit it for you (it's only a 5 minute job).

Deleting your programs won't free up RAM. RAM is temporary memory if you restart your computer you should free up some ram. Also do not run too many programs at once because that uses RAM also. One last suggestion is to close unwanted background applications.

Aint got much to do with programs that reside on your hard drive! Its what is actually running that is eating your ram! How much crap you have loading at startup? How many programs are you running at once? File sharing, messenger services, and all the little doodahs you think you need running at once is your problem! Take a brief course in how PCs operate! Its akin to tryin to pull a cattle trailer uphill with a VW!

Either i) your RAM *is* too low (i.e. 128MB, 256MB-ish), in which case purchase some more RAM. It's not expensive these days, and is easy to fit, or
ii)it could be showing that you have some other process using up too much of your system resources. Check the task manager (right-click on the bottom bar, select Task Manager) to see if your memory is being sapped by one process. If it is, kill the process. You could have some naughty spyware infecting your machine, in which case update your anti-virus, and invetigate other anti-spyware products. Or you could just find that it is explorer that is killing your system, in which case re-install the operating system.

Do you have anti-virus software and is it up-to-date? If you do run it (if you don't then buy one). You could have a virus or other such thing running in the background and using up as much available RAM as it can.
