Quote "did you her that lady cough? , that wasnt just a normal cough that was a spirt inside heard coming out because of the prayer." I thought to my self what hell alot of people are sick at this time of year. what do you think im i in a cult or is this normal in the christian religon. Im pretty freaked out i think its strange.

I don't know whether or not some comment by your pastor is sufficient enough information to label a church a "cult." Also, the word "cult" is not necessarily a pejorative term at all times. You shouldn't be worried about a "cult" unless they are what can be fairly labeled as a dangerous, abusive or manipulative cult. There is an enormous difference between the two. Believing that a cough is the manifestation of prayer and not just little bits of goo in your lungs or a tickle in your throat may make you believe a person who thinks so might be slightly off their head, but it hardly makes them a menace or threat to public safety and personal liberty.

If you wind up staying with the Bible study group, your real concerns should be in regards to what they expect from your membership and the way adherents are treated by the leadership. Do they become defensive, or even worse, outright offensive, whenever you ask questions or raise concerns about the teachings of the church or the interpretations of the leader? Do they expect or demand large amounts of your time? Are they zealous about you brining in potential new converts in the form of family and friends? Do they openly encourage you to distance yourself from family and friends who question or worry about your membership? Do they expect large sums of money for services? Do they offer little or no accountability for where this money winds up? Is there a system of checks and balances in place to keep the leadership of the church democratic where they must answer for their actions?

Ultimately, if the pastor's comment made you feel uncomfortable, you are probably in the wrong place in terms of the sort of religious guidance and companionship you are seeking, but as far as the comment itself being indicitive of this group being justly labeled as a "cult," I'd call that a discriminatory long shot in the absence of any other supporting information.

Definately odd,, definately not mainstream. From other question you posted regarding your wife's realtionship with this pastor. What this pastor says on marriage and sex I would say RUN RUN RUN and grab your wife and sister and drag them with you on your way out the door. Listen there is something seriously wrong here.

Answer a few of these questions for me (you can email them to me if you wish, instead of posting)Where did this guy get his divinity training from is he an MDiv or DD? What is his theological and pastoral degree? Is there a Church heirarchy or is this an independent church? Where was he Ordained? If he is non denominational which Church actually ordained him?

These are important questions as to the legitimacy of what is looking like a very illegitimate man.

Thats not normal. I mean I have heard of things like that happening.
I've seen this women coughing up all kinds of stuff and she said it was the evil coming out of her.

I say stick with it for another week or two and see if you still want to go there.

I don't know if your in a cult, but definitely this is not a normal or reasonable response to some one coughing. I would definitely recommend switching churches.

You are a member of a cult. All religion is cultist. Getting truth from a book written thousands of years ago by men who thought the world was flat and disease was caused by demons, can only spawn delusional superstitious institutions that rely on pseudo-magic and slight-of-hand to keep the rubes in line. Their greatest fear, a doubting mind among them. Have doubt? Run with it.

Sweetie... it's a cult. And, the fact that you asked that question, means you already knew the answer. Hello...the inappropriate time the preacher spends with your wife wasn't a clue?

That is messed up.. run, do not walk to the nearest exit and do NOT go back.

I've attended churches like that... they are borderline cults if not cults.. get out and thank your God that He showed you the light before it was too late.

I agree with you, get out of Babylon the Great.
Revelation 18 verse 4 reads, And I heard another voice out of heaven say, Get out of her, my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive part of her plagues.
Verse 5 goes on to say, For her sins have massed together clear up to heaven, and God has called her acts of injustice to mind.

The main difference between a cult and mainstream religion is not how strange the beliefs are, it's how many people are in it.

LMAO. WOW. omgoodness, talk about looking for things that arent there!

next time she sneezes stand up and scream! god blessed you, he kicked that demon out of you! praise god!

i cant believe people are that ... i dont even know what to say.

in my opinion you should read the bible for yourself. nowhere does it say that coughing is your spirit coming out. they like to make up stuff to pretend its the truth. they may mean well but are going to fill your head with lies if your not careful.
