Me, I've been on nearly every psych drug I've heard of, and the ones I haven't they were trying to put me on when I took myself off all that mood altering stuff, so I at least have an educated opinion here.

I think that the meds *anti-depressants, anti-psychotis, general mood stbalizers* are good, for a while. Before long, you start to think back to before the drugs, though, and you'll start to remember the belly laughs and feeling so good in between the times you felt so bad. I don't know about others, but meds killed my emotions. I'm borderline, so I was very used to highs and lows, but somewher in the 2/3 years I was medicated, I realised that I wasn't getting either. I didn't cry, but my laughs were allways fake. The drugs helped me learn how to deal, though. I say good for a while but not a lifetime.

What's your take on psych drugs?

Like you, antidepressants made me very emotionally numb like a robot. They also killed my sex drive. I miss having emotions when I take psych drugs. My stance is to only take meds during really bad or stressful times-for example when you feel suicidal or when the anxiety or depression interferes with your ability to hold down a job or ruins your relationships. When things are going well in life, I would say stay off the meds. Only take meds if absolutely necessary to function in life.

This is an excellent question! It depends on the problem and the person. Different people react differently to different drugs under different situations. On top of that, if you have mental illnesses, your chemical imbalances can change over time. Thus, a drug that worked for awhile may suddenly not work, or you may suddenly need medication when you didn't before. Stopping taking medication can be fine, but for some people it is a really, really bad idea. It's easy for someone (like Tom Cruise, for example) to bad mouth drugs, because he isn't schizophrenic or bi-polar. He also is not a psychiatrist, so he doesn't know what he's talking about.

For your situation, you may well be right! I have a friend who had serious depression problems and OCD, and he went on medication for a year or two. They helped, and then he went off of them, and he's done very well without them. That said, I know someone who is bi-polar. When she is off the drugs, she is a completely different person than her real self. She is literally incapable of functioning in society. When she is on the drugs, she is utterly normal; loving and caring. She will almost certainly be on medication for the rest of her life, but the alternative is horrific. The best thing that anyone with any psychological problems can do is to talk it over with their doctor.

There is a drug for every situation out there it seems. I have bipolar and my meds are crucial or I start spiralling up or down at a rate of which I cant stop. Drugs arent the only answer I also feel talk therapy is good too. There is no one stop shopping when it comes to dealing with the brain and how a person feels.

they are a band-aid for our real problems. we all have the power to heal ourselves emotionally, but its easier to pop a pill than to find out whats really going on inside. i cured myself of anxiety, panic attacks, depression and ADD through meditative self awareness. i had to learn how to breathe and how to think. took away the drugs and learned how to feel without falling apart, to fear without being afraid. anyone can do it, but most people dont have the courage to face themselves. its very painful at first, then it keeps getting easier. i sat in that empty, uncompfortable feeling of being alone with myself until suddenly the sun came up. it was like a roller coaster rush straight up, i suddenly felt like i was a part of everything, whole and brand new. it was darkest just before the dawn, i refused to give up. now i am free. thats my take on psyche drugs.
