To walk your cat without him/her getting away. A simple collar does nothing and can actually hurt your animal by trying to use a collar and leash as you would with a dog. A cat harness is much safer on the cat and prevents him/her from getting loose - especially with those new break-away collars. Collars are still important - don't get me wrong! Cats should always have a collar on that has a tag with your name & phone # on them - unless you believe in that micro-chip junk. A collar still is no guarantee - but it's better than nothing.

But if you want to try to walk your cat, a cat harness is the ONLY way to go unless you invest in a pet stroller - which defeats the purpose of your pet getting any exercise.

To make us feel really stupid trying to get the cats in them! I have not been sucessful yet in getting my cats to use these. Some of my cats just flop over and act like they are paralyzed while others go nuts and nearly break the harness trying to get out. Some let me put the harness on them and then they will just sit there and not move until i take it off them.

The point of cat harnesses are so you can walk your cat on a leash. Cats body structures make it so they can slip out of a collar and a leash. If you put a harness on your cat, be careful when you walk it.

My parents live on a really busy road and several of their cats have been run over in the past.

Now instead of letting their cat Tiger run free, my dad puts a harness on him and takes him for a walk around the garden - he loves it........so does the cat!

I think that is only if you want to walk your cat with a leash. I tried that with my first cat,and she hated it!! Beware though, they can still get out of the harness and also choke themselves if left unattended (by tying outside)

Not much - I dutifully bought that cat a harness (I live in the city center). Will he walk in it? Will he hell!

Save your money and just watch the cat when he's outside...

If you live close to a busy road as I do, cat harnesses are essential for exercising my ***** cat.

They are useful if you have expensive, pedigree cats that you don't want to lose and can control their movement, and also for house cats who don't go out alone. My Burmese cat hated it and refused to go anywhere with it on, so I gave up in the end and hoped for the best! When we moved to the country she could have access to open fields.
