Their (28 yrs old) pastor has been caught (In September)having an affair with one of the praise and worship leaders. They knew about it since January. They really loved this church. Most of the members left the church, and they did too. Now they are having a really hard time finding a church that they like. I know that a man in his position is held to a higher level of accountability, however, we should forgive, praying that he won't repeat this mistake. He is pastoring again, he and his wife are back together.

Should I tell them to return to his church?

If someone demonstrates an ability to show moral standards, doesn't that sort of disqualify him from being in a position of teaching such?

If this man had a shred of integrity, he would have stepped down and allowed someone with better credentials take his place. That's one of the benefits of being affiliated with a larger congregation. It sounds like this is an unaffiliated church, and like there is no accountability.

I, even if I were still Christian, wouldn't be caught in a church that teaches that one can do as one pleases, get caught in a position which brings disgrace upon a church, and remain in that position of authority.

I'm sorry, but such a scandal doesn not cast a good light on a religion. That a man with loose morals remains in a position of authority over a church is sad.

If he's there, your cousins don't belong there. This man needs some sort of "time out" from serving as a pastor.

No. By having an affair, this man has turned his back on Jesus. How can he be trusted to be a spiritual leader? You may know that the Bible tells us teachers and preachers are held to a higher level of accountability than are others; this is for good reason.

I think it's a better option for the church to replace HIM than for the congregants to find other congregations!

YES!
Pastor is not Jesus or God! We all are weak human being including the pastor himself!
If they look for a perfect pastor they like, they may cannot go to any church forever. Through this occasion, your cousins may learn how not to judge others and understand each other as same sinners, if that happens I think is great!

The pastor should be transfer to another church because even though we are to forgive, human nature would make us resent any council he would give the congregation. It's sad ,but that's what would bring people back. They would always have on their minds the question....would he have asked forgiveness if he hadn't been caught.

Forgive and forget! I would deal with it by forgiving the pastor and making sure he accepted my forgiveness. I just wouldn't feel comfortable being in that church.....
