Very good question Jibba! This can be answered with one verse.
John 5:18 For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

Blasphemy according to the high priests. He was charged with insurrection and stirring up the people. There was no crime He comitted, they were afraid He would become a king over them (which was not his message at all).

Jesus was accused of blasphemy. Many interpreted what he said and did as saying he was God in the flesh because he was God in the flesh. Mat.26: 63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.
66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

the main reason behind it is he preached against the synogogues and how corrupt they were. this scared the pharisees that he had so many followers, and would in turn effect their income from tithes and stuff. so they made reasons to crucify him.
pilot didnt even want to crucify him, but he was pushed by the pharisees and the public that did want him done away with he finally gave in. he tried to "pawn" jesus off on other emperors so his blood would be on their hands, but it ended up coming back to him.

because they believed in One God and they thought Jesus was saying he was God manifested in the flesh. they did not realize that he actually was God manifested in flesh as said in john 1:1-14. they did not realize he was God manifested in flesh tell after he was crusified and raised from the dead. and they called him a king. and that he would be king over everything. they did not realize what that meant either. but now we know. Jesus is the King of kings and Lord of lords, and living today. which they called blasphemy.
