How come my birds were silent for the past 2 days since I had them.
They were doing nothing just sitting there except once yesterday.
I put on some rock music and they started flying around crazily and hopping wildly.
I thought it was loud music that upset them.
But today, someone thought it was a good idea to wrap some sandpaper around the perch instead of buying the official branches that trim their feet.
so he grabbed the perch
that the birds were sitting on!
and the cage tipped to the side from the chair it was on(we didnt buy a stand)
and the paper towel roll toy fell on one(we didnt buy much of any real toys)
and of course the birds hopped around wildly
After he replaced the branch the 2 birds started chirping wildly and screeching and flying around the used $20 cage.
yesterday the parakeets like to go on my finger
now they run away from it
And screech loudly and go crazy every now and then
Is sandpaper a good idea?
Why are they screeching so much?
What do I do?

Like the previous answerer said, LEAVE YOUR BIRDS ALONE!

Birds are complicated creatures, they take time to adjust to new places. The ideal thing to do when you bring them home is put their cage in a safe place (not a chair) and have it all set up how you want it to be, don't change ANYTHING during their first few days, don't take them out, leave a towel half over their cage for 48 hours so they feel safe.

And DON'T give them sandpaper. If you don't have the money to buy your birds an appropriate perch, DON'T BUY BIRDS IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Parakeets are pretty wild anyways, they will screech and make noise, if you wanted a quiet pet you should not have gotten a bird.

Also, don't stick your hand in the cage and move things around when your birds are in the cage. They will see you as a predator.

You didn't buy real toys!? Birds need STIMULATION. Would you have a baby and not give it any toys!? Birds are like small children.

What should you do? Give the birds back to the store you got them from.

I'm not here to contradict your answer, but you should really know that birds live a long time and cost alot of money. Don't substatut any toys for ones you made yourself, it could be dangerious to the bird. Also DO NOT use used cages, even if you know where it came from. Used cages have stuff from the old animals that lived in it, and even if it was the kind of animal it can still be dangerios (I mean seriously, the bird that was in the cage before died some how)

Sand paper perches are really bad for birds they put sores on the birds feet.

Mabe the birds are hungry? Feed them twice a day. Even if the food dish looks full it could just be the husks your birds hollow out.

Please if you DO keep the birds, get some proper eqipment. How would you like to chew on an old paper towel roll? That cage NEEDS to go, spend atleast $200 on your bird, and feed it lots of fruit and veggies! Then they will be happy and so will you. If you want your bird the avreage 15-29 years, dont be afriad to spend some money on your new best friend.Build up the trust you had before again, slowly.

But honestly, consider selling your bird, or putting it up for addoption. It might be better on you and the bird.

You need to get a stand for your cage, or atleast something sturdy for the cage to sit on.

Remember, think of how you like to be treated, and treat your birds with the same respect.DON'T drop your bird! Or consider getting a fish instead, they only need water, food and someone to clean out their cage!

Sensiorly,
Bird lover

Sandpaper perches are not a good idea. All they do is make your birds feet sore. Your birds are suffering extreme stress at the moment, due to being frightened out of their wits!! Please check they have food and water!!! It would be wise of you to leave your birds to calm down and settle. Do not attempt to remove the perches for a week or so. Place your birds somewhere quiet, talk to them in a gentle voice/manner. Play music, but just in the background.Attend to your birds needs,ie,clean water/food/toy's/cleaning etc,gently/quietly. You MUST stop your birds from being frightened in this manner. Birds die of shock very easily. Please try to be a responsible owner, and care for your birds in the manner you should.

I hope you researched enough to know that birds live for a long time, mine at least 20 years. I am sorry that your words are not that of a bird lover. Come on give us bird lovers and care takers of birds a break. You want to see something go to youtube and search for aria, an extremely abused parrot that her new family has documented from day 3 to day 90 something. If you are going to click on it please make sure you have a box of Kleenex or a roll of toilet paper, Aria has made progress from bird lovers like us that care.

i attempted sandpaper perches and stumbled on that my birds hated it. Then i attempted widespread perches and that they enjoyed it. you mustn't concern approximately your birds' nails although and your perch would desire to be great or small in some places so the birds have a great place of their determination to place their ft on.

Well, don't make loud noise, and don't make sudden or swift movements, as these will scare your birds. Try using birch tree branches for perches, they're more natural and they are good for the birds.
