My boyfriend is Italian and his family is from up north..He's very close to his mom, which Italian men are known to be. He does things that aggragvate me, though, like tap into my e-mails and look through everything in my cell phone etc..he has to know EVERYTHING. But when the tables turn, he'll get a phone call or see one of his friends, and say "can you go in the other room and wait for me, this is important.." or he'll walk away when he gets a certain phone call and get furious if I follow him. His excuse is that I can't handle certain things!! Once, I wanted to give him a taste of his own medicine and had my friend call me..I did the same; went up stairs and used his lines "this doesn't concern you..sorry, I have to take this..wait here"....he was LIVID..he kicked things , he stormed after me, turned red..went nuts about it..his mom tried to stop him and he pushed her out of his way and caused a big commotion in his house. Is this double standard typical of Italian-American men?

My husband is the same way. He's Italian. he is such a mama's boy. He looks into my emails and even checks my business laptop in the history. i asked him one time if he was checking up on me, he said he was just looking for a site he visited the other day when he came to my shop. Bullsh*t. I know him. He checks my cell phone when I'm not around. He checks everything when I'm not around. I asked him if he found something on me or if he just didn't trust me. He is so nosy. If I were to do anything like he does he would blow a gasket. I let him, he hasn't found anything and won't. So happy hunting I say. Sometimes it pisses me off. But other times I wish I did plant something for him to find. He would freak. Serves him right. Good luck with your BF and if it gets to you too much, tell him if he doesn't trust you enough then you will leave. He should straighten up.

Tourists are generally said to be "easy" anywhere around the world; you're excited to be abroad with a lot of free time to spend enjoying yourself, so you may come across someone who thinks you just wanna have some fun, it's up to you to show them what kind of girl you are. First of all don't ever, EVER put yourself in a potentially dangerous situation, like following him in a secluded place you don't know. I understand you'll be wanting some privacy at a certain point, but at least tell your friend to come check on you after a while or to give you a ring on your cell, just to make sure everything's alright. Second, don't get hopelessy drunk: apart from the fact that a girl who's stumbling her way to the loo with her makeup running and a stained shirt is not a nice sight, it's gonna be hard to be in control of yourself and think clearly. Third: even though he seems a decent guy and you fancy him, don't be too quick to believe everything he says: when it comes to these things, Italians are practised charmers, so you wanna doublecheck he's not engaged or married and he actually cares about you before you get in too deep. Tip: if you understand some Italian, just pretend you don't and listen to the comments he exchanges with his friends. Anyway, I didn't mean to scare you off with the worst scenario, Italy is a nice and mostly safe place, I'm sure you'll love living here; it's just that I hate it when some beautiful and smart young girl gets hurt just because she couldn't see it coming. As for your skin color and your features, they might be a plus. I'm sure you'll have a great time here, spending some time abroad is always a great experience :-)

Absolutely NOT... Although the Italian Culture may reflect a certain "the man runs the show" way of life, what you are describing is abuse.

The biggest red flag I saw here is that he PUSHED his mother.... if he has no qualms about pushing his own mother around, he will not hesitate to beat the life out of you if he feels it is justified in his mind.

I would run and never look back. He feels the need to run your life and control your every move. There is never ever a good end to this kind of treatment.

A real man, no matter what his culture, will treat you with love and respect. He will know that every human being needs their own space and will trust you when you have it.

u cant really say all Italian-American men are the same because that would be generalizing.... not all Italian men are bad at all and like in every culture there are also some exceptions... from my experience i have not met an Italian man like your boyfriend...

Filipinos and other Asians are like that too. And if he thinks you're browsing porn, he'd blow up in your face and scare you away.

That can be a typical standard of any man regardless of their race. But I would be careful of him.
