OK tried it on another computer and it is a newer version of word and says that the file may be corrupt and that I am screwed. Hahha not the last part. Will system restore fix the corrupted file? I am willing to spend money to get the file back if I need to. Any more help would be GREAT!

If that's too expensive then:
The only thing I woul try is changing the extension to.txt instead of .doc and then opeining it wordpad.
What you'll see is a bunch of spaghetti-- and then a block of your text then spaghetti, then text then spaghetti, so cut and paste the blocks of text in order back into a blank word document.
That's the hard way...the easy way...well there isn't one.

Try re-installing MS Office. I've seen rare occasions where Office gets corrupted showing that error.

Chances are, the document is fine. Remove and Re-install Office and try to open it again.

BTW... You can test to see if the file is good by opening the file in WORDPAD.

You remember the file name? Do a search for it in windows search. If you find it, load it to a flash drive or burn to a cd before you lose it forever!
