Really, what do they expect to find that actually relates to their specific situation? Furthermore, how much of it do you think will actually fix the problem the way they need it fixed?

Well because I am a punk you may not believe what I say but.......
I believe that most people put there problems on here because it is safe. They don't have to face anyone and answer questions.
They state the problem they have and sit back and hope some of what is said makes sense for them.
We all know.....or should know....that any answer we get....no matter how good or right on it will be.....will not have a life changing effect on us. But we all need a different perspective and where better to get it than from someone that has no stake in the problem but may have gone through the very same thing.

Maybe safety...but don't you think that it is wise to get insructions before working on a car if you don't have experience ... or maybe you are a lousy mechanic and really could use some help.
The truth is we need one another to live in this crazy world. Collectively we can give support that may not be available in bad home situations, from peers who don't know, or live in some area with few people to ask.
Some people really just want attention and waste time but for the few who really need the help this is a great outlet.

Maybe because they seek answers from an unbiased source. Sometimes when we ask people we know they tell us what we want to hear to avoid hurting our feelings.
On the down side, because you do not personally know who is answering your Yahoo question, it could be someone 12 years old, or someone who is a complete screwed up that should not be giving anybody any advice.
But if your smart you can figure out by the way the person writes and what they say whether they have sense.

People seeking advice for situations that other people have been through. The life experiences of others are the meat of this site. They seek answers for genuine questions, like this one.
They may not find the exact fix, but, an influence on an important decision may be discovered.

They look for advice on here because there are nice people who want to help and have had similar experiences.
Depending on the situation it could help alot, fix the problem even.

they look for help on here to get an outsider's point of view...and that can sometimes be a reality check for them. that's assuming they put enough details in there to get a better advice. those that ask very basic questions make it difficult to give advice

alot of people are going through the same things and its kinda good to hear other peoples stories. it might not necessarily help them get out of their situation but it might give them some insight on what to do.
