I believe that being raised in a Christian home certainly made it easier for me to believe that Jesus is God. But not because I was indoctrinated. It was because I saw that my parents were real people like everyone else, complete with tempers, selfishness and the like. Yet, I saw that Jesus made a huge difference in their life. He gave them peace when times were so tough, calmness in their anger, the ability to forgive, and compassion for others. I saw God provide time and time again for my family always at just the right time. We didn't live with much extra, but we always had our needs met and often by those who didn't know of our need.
I made a decision to begin my relationship with God when I was 7 years old. It was a very simple, childlike faith that I had. And particularly in college, I struggled with the question of whether there is a god and if Jesus is true. What affirmed my decision was looking back at my life, and remembering how I had "seen" and experienced God in my life. I have since done more study, and found the evidence (archeology, eye witness accounts, time, etc.) also supports the Bible's validity, which only strengthened my belief.
Oh...one last thing...sorry for the long answer. When I was pregnant with my son, I read tons of books on how he was developing. It amazed me at how it all happens, and I kept thinking "This is too intricate for there to be no creator." I've heard the analogy that we look at a watch and know that it was created by someone, and yet the body is so much more intricate than a watch.

I looked around the world for an answer to my questions. I was raised as a Christian Baptist, but nothing ever made sense. No one could ever explain the tough questions. Why we suffer, why are some people apparently better off in this life, and other struggle till they die, etc.
I looked, and found the logic I was seeking, and as I studied, everything made sense. Science, and philosophy, and religion combined into one, explaining everything I wanted to know, and could understand. That is when I finally believed in God.
No one, can truly believe in something, until they understand it. No one can understand something, if it is not logical. Illogical faiths and ideas are always disproved under the weight of time, understanding, and science.

Moved out on my own with no money but stepped out on faith and believed that I would make it on my own if I kept my focus on Christ. He kept me from being hungry when I didn't have any money for food. He gave me a place to sleep when I didn't have anywhere to go. My determination and faith got me where I am at today In a nice home typing on a computer. He kept me from slipping into a coma when I became quickly ill. So to answer your question, for me, It was believing in a higher power and keeping my relationship strong with him. I'm in constant prayer thanking Him everyday for everything He's done and hasn't done for me and telling others my testimony. It's easy to say "oh my mom and dad raised me in the church or they're religious so i'm saved." But mommy and daddy cannot save you. You have to find your own way. Mom and Dad planted the seed now it's up to me to grow that flower. Give Christ a try He wont let you down. I can testify all night but I wont lol . God bless.

Believing in God is something that you realize that He is alive and working. You realize the issues with the so called "intellectuals" in the world who just love to share their "evidence" and hide anything that contradicts them. Often times their criticism of the Bible are vague ideas they get when they HEAR about the Bible, and don't take the time to read it. Most people believe in a higher being by just observing life and realizing it can't all be just random chance. I encourage you to read the Bible and realize that He may be calling you.

I was raised to be spiritual from childhood. However, I began to question things. At one point I don't even know if I believed in God.
Then I was in Hawaii and a mosquito bit my arm on a lump that already existed on my arm. It caused a huge swelling and when it went away so did my lump. It was so eerie and so weird, I started to believe that there was a purpose to that mosquito bite to rid my body of a lump that just would not go away from childhood. It seemed in that random moment, God was looking out for me and my concerns. Random acts are not always random when they are so rare- to me. There is a purpose and God is looking after us!

I asked Him a question and He answered it. Then, as time went on, I found the things in the Bible to be true. And finally, I read in the Bible that the Holy Spirit was given as "collateral" until Jesus came back, and that He would give me a new language to speak. I tested it out, and almost overnight, I was speaking a new language. I had tried to do this all of my life, but couldn't.

Both. My parents were extremely religious and I went to church every Sunday and sometimes more than once a week.
I'm an 6 yr survivor of lung cancer and after my first round of chemo I was about to pass out and die, but then I swear, I saw Mary with Baby Jesus in her arms. Mary said, "Hold on." I prayed to Mary, Baby Jesus, Joseph, and the patrons and patronesses of cancer and nurses. After that I never felt sick before, during, or after chemo and three months later my cancer was cured.

I know God exists based upon spiritual experience - some call it mystical experience.
I was never one who liked blind faith - and I had the benefit of not being raised in any religion.

I was raised that way. The things I heard scared me enough that it kept me in line - sort of - for quite a while. And then I started thinking.
