Jesus did not have a father or mother. Some of the people who answered said that God is His Father. Yes, in a symbolic sense. But that is besides the point. The question is about blood relations, and Jesus only had one physical parent.

Joseph, according to the Bible, came from the line of David. Some Christians interpret the genealogy in Luke as being that of Mary. If this is true, then they are both of the Tribe of Judah and the Royal House of David. Mary may have been from the Cohen family, in which case the relationship may have been slightly more distant. Ultimately, we cannot say for sure, because we don't have records to prove it and we don't have dna samples either.

Joseph adopted and raised Jesus as his own son, although he was not the father of Jesus. Remember that an angel spoke to him about Jesus, and he knew what he was supposed to do. That's why he married Mary. This relationship with Jesus was VERY important to God. So much so, that the list of ancestors of Jesus ended with Joseph!! See Matthew 1 and Luke 3. Amazing, hey??

Joseph was the spouse of Mary and betrothed to Mary at the time of Jesus' birth. Matthew -verses 1-2, and Luke 1-2, both emphasise Mary's virginity. He was a pious of Jew of Davidic descent. It is believed that he was old at the time of his marriage to Mary. So Joseph was husband of Mary, but foster father of Jesus.

Most obviously Joseph was Jesus' stepfather - i.e. husband of Jesus' mother but not Jesus' biological father. More than that, though, one of Jesus' titles is "Son of David". That comes through Joseph, who, according to Luke 2 was "of the house and lineage of David". So even though Joseph was not Jesus' biological father, Jesus was Joseph's son in a sense which goes a little bit beyond the typical stepfather-stepson relationship.

Dear stand,

Joseph was Jesus' stepfather. Mary was a virgin chosen by God to give the Lord a human nature, because God (Jesus) is a spirit. God spoke of this event 800 years before it actually occurred. Because man had forfeited eternal life by his rebeliion to God in the Garden of Eden, a man was required to win it back. But how could a mortal man endure the penalty of eternal damnation and come out at the other end victorious? That is why the God-man Jesus Christ came to this world. Joseph was just an obedient servant of the Lord just as Mary was.

mmm i am on the inclide that Joseph would have just been know as father as he didn't go though any adoption process and the term step is deamed to the 2nd person to look after the children (he was the first man to help look after Jesus on earth). Am not sure if the term father would be the corect use of father in the term of god.
As God is the father of All mankind!(in christain faiths), so why don't we call our birth father step dads?

Joseph (the seed of David) was his father, and he also had brothers and sisters.

... For the Son of God, who was begotten before time began, and established all things according to the will of the Father, He was conceived in the womb of Mary, according to the appointment of God, of the seed of David, and by the Holy Ghost ... (Epistle of Ignatius to the Ephesians Chapter XVIII. - The Glory of the Cross; http://www.ccel.org/fathers2/ANF-01/anf01-16.htm#P1093_206499)

Jesus’ brothers are mentioned in several Bible verses. Matthew 12:46, Luke 8:19, and Mark 3:31 say that Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see Him. The Bible tells us that Jesus had four brothers: James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas (Matthew 13:55). The Bible also tells us that Jesus had sisters, but they are not named or numbered (Matthew 13:56). In John 7:1-10, His brothers go on to the festival while Jesus stays behind. In Acts 1:14, His brothers and mother are described as praying with the disciples. Later, in Galatians 1:19, it mentions that James was Jesus’ brother.
