Soybeans and soyfoods are healthy. While soybeans are part of a smart diet because they're high in protein, new research points to other significant benefits from soy - most important, its apparent role in reducing the risk of certain chronic diseases. In 1999, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that foods containing soy protein may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease — a claim substantiated by checkoff-funded research.

There is great scientific interest in this topic. More than 500 other scientific studies to date confirm the disease-fighting potential of soyfoods. In fact, people who consume a diet high in soy have historically had lower incidence of chronic disease — including heart disease, the number one killer in the United States. Other diseases less common among people with soy-rich diets include cancer, diabetes and osteoporosis.

Soybean oil(provided it's not hydrogenated) is definitely better than, say, lard or tropical oils. Lard, tropical oils, butter, and hydrogenated fats all contain a high amount of saturated and/or trans fats. It's also a great all-purpose oil. Two oils that are even more healthful include olive and canola. Olive oil is best reserved for savory cooking, while canola can be used for both savory and sweet items.

Plain old soybean oil is better than, say, partially hydrogenated soybean oil [aka shortening and margarine]. But really only extra virgin olive oil is actually good for you, and then only used sparingly. Everything else is just grease compared to extra virgin olive oil, even so-called "pure olive oil".

i'm not sure is just soybean oil is but any oil that has the words partially hydrogenated or hydrogenated before it on the box is bad, it's a tip off that there is trans fat in it

It depends on whether it is organic soybean oil, or processed soybean oil. Organic is definitely healthy, however processed soybean oil will upset your hormone balance, and is not recommended.
