I find it quite shocking how many people can't form a proper sentance, paragraph, use proprer punctuation or even spell words correctly in this place or any other public forum for that matter!!!
I wonder where most of the people who fail to use correct grammer, spelling and punctuation are from?
Probably here in the United States. It's just so very sad our education systems are so very weak and can't do as good a job as the systems in other countries!!!
Please feel free to voice your opinions!!!

Response to some of your answers!!!

# 1) Kris- If the student is to blame for not trying than that means the parents are to blame for not participating enough with their children’s education and teaching them the benefits of effort and work ethic!!!!!

# 2) Electric- If you don't take care of the small stuff the big stuff falls apart!!!!
That means that you should NEVER slack off on things like grammar, spelling or punctuation or anything else just because it takes a bit of effort to do it correctly. That leads to the deterioration of abilities and the thought process!!! Tink bout it if u can!!

# 3) Lifeasakumkwat-The educators these days are ALL teaching to some sort of standardized test like the MEAP in our secondary public inner city schools and unless your fortunate enough to be born into money that’s all you get. That narrows the abilities of these kids and we will end up with VERY weak leaders of society if this doesn’t change!!!

College graduates have a 6th Grade knowledge of grammar. College education is a fraud and should not be rewarded. Graduates will whine about their sacrifice, but sacrifice has no merit. They think they are owed something for their slavishness to those who demand they spend four years without an income, but the same economic fascists make sure that their own brats get a psychologically healthy allowance in college.

The ulterior purpose of education is to create mice for fatcats, so it is unrealistic to expect much learning to be acquired.

College is just a way to buy a job, with all that implies about having no right to that job. College is the Pinocchio factory, where the puppets of the rich are turned into lying little boys. It is childish, insulting, humiliating, and self-destructive. A college graduate "knows how to" do a job, but only in the sense that most American boys "know how to" play baseball but can't even make their high-school team. If you don't pay people to go to college, they aren't worth anything. The economy is collapsing because such inferior people are the only ones allowed to run it.

I think that for the most part people are overly critical of the American education system. When people often compare American kids to other nations they do not understand that the methodology for teaching is often very different. Many nations focus on rote learning of facts and data while in the U.S. and Canada the focus is generally on abstract thinking and problem solving. I have met many American students who went to university in India and failed misreably because they were not used to memorizing facts. However, I have also met Indian studnets who have come to the States and struggled beacuse they expected to only have to memorize facts and not have to apply them to real world situations.

I would argue that the biggest problems facing the American education system today are

1. that we expect every student to succeed at the same level; making everyone, K-12, a jack of all trades
2. we do not hold students as accountable for their grades as other countries do but instead shift the blame on the schools and teachers.
3. American schools have made "memorization" a four letter word and instead of balancing facts with abstract thinking schools are trying to eradicate fact learning altogether.

First of all I would have to disagree!! There are kids that get all A's, or A's and B's. Some kids don't do so well because they don't try... ever think of that.

And by the way I learned about my reproductive system and everything at school in 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th. They just teach it over and over again. So I think us girls know what we are talking about when it comes to reproduction. I'm thinking it's the guys who don't konw ANYTHING... or at least forget it like *that*!!

Sentance? Grammer? Ha!

Most people do not really care if they misspell words here on Yahoo! or any other sites. One reason would be that they do not want to waste time checking their grammar in something as insignificant as this. Other users might still be in grade school!
Now, if they were filling out a job application and there were many grammar errors, that would be something serious to consider.
