I want to know how does the inspection procedure occurs when a textile industry receives rolls of fabrics. How do they inspect it for defects? Do they unroll them manually? (can it be done this way? if so how many rolls do they usually unroll)

It is done visually via random check while the material is being rolled.

The number of inspections is very dependent on the type of fabric, cost, and location. In the third world, labor costs are cheap so fabric is inspected more often as it is made. General inspection for defects is done on an inspection frame where the fabric is rolled/unrolled automatically and the operator checks both visually, with rulers, and their hands. There are auto frames, but they are very expensive. Chemical tests are done on samples pulled from the rolls being inspected. It is good to test either end of the roll and the middle. Again, the number depends on many factors.

You inspect it as you place your patterns for cutting out. Also, it should be inspected by the manufacturer before shipping to the plant, but things get overlooked sometimes.
