a normal cholesterol total is anywhere from 150 to 200, but more important than the total is the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol. HDL (good cholesterol) should be higher than LDL (bad cholesterol), and the triglycerides need to be under 150.
There is alot more to it than just the total.

The general rule is < 200. However what is most important to look at is your LDL (low density lipoprotien) and HDL (high denisity lipoprotien) . LDL (BAD) HDL (good) both are parts of cholesterol. You want your LDL to be low and HDL to be high. Which can be manipulated through diet and exercise. It really depends on your genes.

do you eat eggs? If you do, stop. I had high cholesterol and cut out eggs in my diet. Didn't change a think, except the eggs. Within 3 months, my cholesterol was checked again and it was in the pefect range.
