I think Yankee Candles produce too much soot. I'm liking Votivos, but they are expensive. Any thoughts?

You should look into buying soy based candles. They burn cleaner and they do not produce soot like other candles do.

Take a look at one company that I recommend. I have been buying from them for a couple of months. They are a direct sales company, but they have fast shipping.

Hope that helps!

First, after 15 years in the HVAC business, I do not recommend burning candles of ANY type. I've seen too much damage to walls, furniture and duct systems even from the "safe" ones. However, if you must burn candles, buy ones that are made of wax with a thin wick, not paraffin . There is a difference, paraffin is a petroleum based product. Trim the wick so that it is no longer than 1/4 inch before you light it. Keep them out of the path of airflow, flickering candles have a nice visual effect but the flickering produces an improper burn thus producing more soot.

I like Artistic Candle Company. I received one of their Classic candles scented with McIntosh Apple Crisp for Xmas. I was surprised when I lit it today and the scent actually filled the first floor of my house! They have some pretty interesting designs, I've never seen any other candles that look like this. I believe their website is at www.artisticcandleco.com
I don't like Party-Lite candles. I don't think their scent is very strong and they always seem to burn irregularly.
I agree that Yankee candles tend to produce too much soot, even when I keep the wick trimmed. Their candles scent throw is ok, but I'm still happiest with Artistic Candle.
Hope this advice is helpful to some readers.

My suggestion would be candle warmers they are little plates you put under the candle that heat the wax releasing the sent without burning them at all so your candles last longer and you never have to worry about soot. I have found candle warmers anywhere from the dollar store to the Yankee candle Store. They are not exactly the prettiest decoration but they will be a solution to your problem.

They are expensive but Party Lite Candles are the best and they do not produce soot or should not. They are made differently so that this does not happen. You can only get Party Lite Candles from the reps that do the parties but it's worth it.

I don't really use candles anymore.. I bought a Yankee Candle Tart Burner for 15 bucks at a country store.. I love it!! I have 3 of them now.. The tarts for it are only 1.50 and you can get all the scents that Yankee has and you can reuse them!! So much cheaper than candles.. Check it out on E-bay.. just get the electric on!!.. It also smells up my whole house!!!

I have found that the woodwick candles a good. You get what you pay for. I also love the oil burners from Bath and Body works. I prefer the oil burner to a candle any day. The scents are stronger and last longer. They are rather inexpensive, probably more so now that they are having the after holiday sales

The best type of candle is soy with a non-lead wick. They appear more expensive but burn significantly longer and do not produce soot. They are also non-carcinogenic.

They are especially great smelling if you get them with the essential oils you like.

Good luck...

Yankee candles are ok, votives are nice as well. The best candle is a good quality one you pay more money for. One that will burn a long time and give off the proper scent it is supposed to.

The only type of candle I have in my house is Home Interior. I like the Maderan Melody, but also any of the other ones are good. I have different ones throughout the house. The good thing about them is that you don't even need to light them to get smell from them. They smell sooooo good though when they are lit. I have baked apple pie in my kitchen or I use it for the Christmas time. I use the linen fresh, english ivy, and so on. there are too many to name all of the different smells I have. I love them all.
