That happened to my dogs not to long ago. Ever time we gave them some dog food, they wouldn't eat it. So my brother suggested to give them some food in the morning and if they don't eat it, take the food away from them, and do this for lunch and dinner, when he finally dose start eating, every time he is done eating take the food away. A dog thinks the food will be there whenever he want's, so he thinks he can eat anytime, so to make him start eating let him know that there is a time when he will only get food. Once he realizes this he will eventually start eating again.

Some dogs that are fed table scraps learn that they can "hold out" for something better.
If this is the case, give your dog his food, let it sit on the floor for 15 minutes, and then pick it up. No treats, no snacks, nothing, until the next feeding time, when you put his food down again.

If the problem isn't table scrapes, try warming your dog's food a little. Warm food releases more odors, so it might entice your dog into eating. Mixing a little hard boiled egg into his regular food may also jump-start him into eating.

You didn't say if your dog is drinking water or not. Not drinking is actually more serious than not eating. A dog can safely go for a few days without food, but not drinking can lead to dehydration, which can cause a domino effect leading to some very serious conditions. If your dog isn't drinking call your vet, and try to get him to drink a little warm (low fat/sodium) chicken soup.

The only problem with the symptom of not eating, is that there are a huge number of possibilities and it can be very difficult to sort through all of them.

Sometimes a dog that is overweight will stop eating briefly in an attempt to regulate it's weight.

Will your dog take food from your hand? You can start by hand feeding him, and see if you can end by getting him to eat from his bowl.

Start with the simple stuff; if this is new behavior, tooth or gum problems are possible. Examining him to make sure she isn't retaining baby teeth (if your dog is young) or has any cracked teeth. Check that his gums are not really irritated.

Some of the things that come to mind with dogs that are very picky about eating, include intestinal worms, other intestinal parasites, food allergies, problems with any organ system (kidneys, heart, liver) and Addison's disease. I am sure there are many other possibilities.

If he does not come around quickly and begin to be willing to eat dog food or if you see any signs that there may be more wrong (weight loss, gum disease, etc.) then it's time to have your vet examine him.

First, I would say take her to the vet to make sure there are no problems such as a blockage from swallowing something inedible. Next, try putting your dog on a feeding schedule. Don't let your puppy eats whenever he wants. Put food out at feeding time and allow puppy to eat. If it chooses not to eat, put the food away until next feeding time. This will not only help puppy realize if it's hungry it better eat when you allow it, but it will help regulate it's bathroom schedule. Another problem could be the people food. Puppy may be filling up on snacks it is fed through out the day and not wanting his dog food. Sometimes my dog doesn't eat for whatever reason, but by the next feeding time, he's hungry again and eats his food.

If your dog sometimes gets ppl food, then she may just be holding out for the ppl food. NEVER feed a dog ppl food. She also may just be stressed about the new puppy. Try feeding them in seprate rooms. Spend a little extra time with just her. If this goes on for more than a few days, I'd take her to the vet just to make sure there isn't anything physical going on too.

please dont feed her people food. This is very bad for dogs, espeically puppies. They need the balanced diet of puppy food. Give her a day.. she might be a little depressed if she doesnt come around by the second day take her to your vet. She could have parvo, or something else.

Probably just giving you some attitude about the new pup. DOn't give into the people food. It is an animal and instinct will take over and she will eat. She will not starve.

She is probably just scared. She will soon settle in and get used to her sorroundings. When that happens she should feel a little more at home and safe and then she will be comfortable eating. Hope this helps.

I would say she is JEALOUS of the new pup. Dont give her very much "people" food as it is not always good for her.
